Was Louis' power overrated? Old (1941) article

I think Louis was the most correct puncher the division has seen.

 

Definitely.

 

But according to some being 230lbs makes you a big puncher. Funny how the size argument shifts to suit agendas.

 

OK it comes down to this.

I am a firm believer that an ounce of technique, is worth a pound of power.

I accept that there were probably limited punchers, who hit harder than Louis.

The fact remains, that the poor souls who shared a ring with him, all seem to say that it was like being hit with a baseball bat.

That makes me think, that it wasn't just technique!

 

looking at the title thread more I read this recently to address his power and found the article on the net also..i have to agree with it...Louis was not the most dominant boxing puncher or even skilled lets be real he fought and defeated guys with many losses.her actually became the champ by defeating opld out of action for two years Braddock who had about 25 losses..whats the argument here?louis dominated and was technical in offensive skills,he does not measure up to modern standards ,but going back to the article ..I agree with it,the most important fight he LOST to older Shmelling so it ends there for me.lopuis has his spot for the 25 defenses but lets be real here,its flawed in many ways,if we are considering him the world beater of if he was alive today.
