Oh but he was dominating, its why every thought Santos was going to get KO infront of his people in his hometown. Perhaps not the first few rounds, but it was obvious it was all Margaritos fight when it was stopped.
Margarito was turning it on at the time of stoppage, He was ahead on one score card, he was ahead on all the HBO teams scores, but the fight took place in Puerto Rico, and Santos is Puerto Rican. They favored the hometown kid, but it was clear in the last round they fought had the fight continued, Margarito would have won the fight, it looked to me like Santos was ready to go. But people need to get over this fight, seriously that was years ago the fight didnt get to play itself out, in both fights with Santos they were stopped due to head buts, I aint pointing fingers but damn in two fights Santos was able to cut Tony with his head, or needed to I guess, who knows. but the fact remains Tony was taking over the fight at that point and it was also clear to Santos.
Margarito was clearly in command at the time of stoppage, and yes in that last round he was bombing on Santos and Santos did not look at all like he wanted to continue fighting
It was pretty close, but Margarito was turning up the heat and getting to Santos. It it wasn't for the stoppage Margo would have won that fight, or maybe not, it was in puerto rico after all. I had Margo ahead on pts.
I think its safe to say, that after last nights broadcast, alot of you doubters and haters got a upclose look at Margarito that you havent before in the past, and perhaps as a result of the mans trials and tribulations I think in a sense some of you are starting to come around now. I agree with what Kellerman said last night on the show, " I wouldnt want to be the other guy in the ring with Tony the night that Margarito feels that he has arrived " Words could not say it anybetter. BTW Tonys trainer is a ****ing looney isnt he?
I've always been a fan of Antonio Margarito ever since I saw his losing effort to Paul Williams. After watching the countdown, I am a huge fan. There is so much to like and respect about Antonio Margarito. Starting out as a pro at such a young age, never quitting, and he wasn't afraid to show his affection for his passed away brother. It's not always just about skill, but about heart and courage. He'll always be a great fighter in my book.
Skills do not always win you fights, Whats inside matters a great deal, People over look what he brings to the table all to often that will change saturday night, people will see why Floyd did not want to fight Antonio Margarito upclose. and I am sure no matter how the fight goes, when Tony wins some of the doubters and Haters will see the light, but the majority of them will find ways to discredit the win and still yap. I am almost 99% positive if Tony destorys Cotto and makes short work of him, you will never see Floyd Mayweather come out of retirement.
I guess that Santos had to held on to dear life and with his back to the ropes several times in order not to find his natural way to the canvas... Props for Daniel Santos for having great pride to fight on and in front of his home crowd ( in a event that featured Cotto's first attempt at the WBO 140 pound title against Kelson Pinto)... Was Margarito beating Santos? Santos was being battered and found his rescue in a stupid headbutt and a home SD decision...
Please! Santos was getting dominated towards the end. He was getting rocked, he was backing away from the smaller lion, he had no legs. It was a close fight, but Margarito was dominating Santos towards the end, before the hometown decision to save Santos ass from utter humiliation.
Dude, your slow. Obvious. What is hard to understand that it was a competetive fight up untill Nargarito started to crank it up? Margarito is a slow started, but once he cranked it he started dominating Santos. Had him against the ropes, had him chicken dancing, holding on to dear life, the fight was stopped, SD victory to the loser! The fight was in Puerto Rico. A hometown decision??? Nah, not in Puerto Rico!
