Was Marciano REALLY superior to Frazier?

Frazier definitely had the best single win of the two of them, but then Marciano might get slots 2, 3 and 4 on the list.

I'm not so sure about that. Does Marciano have multiple wins more impressive than stopping Quarry in 5, for example?

I think that Walcott, Charles and Moore were better than Quarry, though obviously they gave Marciano more competitive fights.

An interesting question is how competitive Quarry would be with Marciano?

    Indeed.

On paper he might have the tools to make it an interesting fight, but if he fights like he did against Frazier, I don’t see it ending well for him.

Good question. Quarry didn't have the "class" of guys like Moore and Charles but he was stronger, had better power, good timing as a counter-puncher, and developed a smart backfoot game. Arguably had more impressive wins at heavyweight (and fewer bad losses) than either of them too.

If I wanted to compare Charles legacy at light-heavy to Ali at heavy I would have said that.

What I did say was I know most people rank Charles as greater than Ali. I said that because on most lists I've seen, Ali has been below Charles.

And so your reasoning is that because Charles is higher than Ali on many ATG lists you've seen, beating Charles is just as impressive as beating Ali?

I think Marciano probably was better "all-round" but I think Frazier was a slightly better heavyweight. A smidge.

If you watch footage of them side by side, what stands out is the following:

Marciano’s power is much more impressive.

Frazier’s speed is much more impressive.

Hand speed SPECIFICALLY his hook YES. Frazier stated himself his "legs were slow but my fists.... WATCH OUT!"

You know what. I think it's easier to nullify Frazier. Some fighters would of took that hook away. But I prefer fraziers resume. H2H a war. A pick um, Frazier by decision.

Marcianos lower crouch makes it more difficult for Joe to land his hook. That punch would sail over Rockys bobbing upper body while Joe would be open for Rockys major weapon...a right hand. As both men would be punching Marcianos right beats Joes left to the punch ending the fight. Marciano KO in eight rounds over Joe Frazier.
