I've only watched the fight once in it's entirety and of course there was a gradual slow wearing down process, but as then and since that punch has been universally acknowledged as simply a great punch! In my opinion it would have ko'd Walcott no matter when in the fight it landed or in what condition Walcott was in.
Yup. This photo has often erroneously been referred to as the KO blow... but isn't. It's a shot Walcott absorbed a round earlier.. http://www.campbells.org/BIG_FILES/r+r_Marciano-Wolcott(23Sept1952)-33.jpg
Here's a huge punch that Marciano landed to Walcott's exposed jaw in one of the middle rounds: https://streamable.com/wu1mj
George Foreman has stated that Archie Moore said Rocky Marciano hit harder than Joe Louis, it's safe to say the Rock was a one punch knockout artist.
Archie Moore has stated that both Yvon Durrelle ,and Curtess Sheppard hit him harder than Marciano. He further said,", people ask me who hit me the hardest I tell them what they want to hear, Marciano, but it isn't so." Marciano may have hit harder than Louis that doesn't necessarily make him a one punch ko artist. eg Louis was a lot more economical, quicker, and more importantly accurate. Since Moore was never hit by Louis his opinion on his power is no more valid than yours or mine.
That doesn't mean they hit harder though it could easily mean they hit him cleaner. I think it's clear to see Marciano was as much a one punch knockout artist as any HW champion. If both Moore and Walcott said Marciano hit harder than Joe Louis then he hit pretty damn hard!
Why would Moore's testimony be valid? We know Marciano hit hard, that is not the question being posed here.
He fought Marciano and was likely around Joe Louis in his career, I bet there's a good chance they sparred?
