Some posters here like McVea have told me this fight should not be classified as a one punch knockout. I'll let the forum decide. What do you think? https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=npz7kFB4Vo4
In a sense yes and in another sense no. Marciano had doled out a significant amount of punishment over the rounds. Walcott had been coming forward earlier in the fight and had been a much harder target to find. By this time, tho, he was retreating rather stiff legged and giving much wider openings, taking a lot longer to set and counter. Rocky ends matters with abruptness but the openings and posture of his opponent were not the same as they were in earlier rounds.
In truth, yes, but without taking away anything from the Rock, he was on a hiding to nothing really in fighting an older man, champ or otherwise.
He would not have landed that right anytime before the 10th. Go back and watch those earlier rounds. Walcott goes back to the ropes and lands first or gets out of there.
Come on man, how can you say that. It seems like your nitpicking. Rewatch rounds 11 and 12. Those are Walcotts best rounds of the fight besides the 1st. Walcott badly staggered Marciano in round 11 with a left hook, and won the 12th easily. How can you claim walcott was fading going into round 13 with evidence like that?
Of course it was a one punch knockout....I used to have this same silly argument over and over, ad nauseum with a friend I used to have....he always implied that it was the cumulative effect of all the punches landed throughout the fight....just capped off by the coup de grace...which mean't that if the knockout punch was the only punch thrown by the ultimate winner, could it be considered a "one punch knockout. Patently ridiculous.
Walcott shot his wad... but he was probably compelled to go all out because he was fading and thought it his only chance. It's a good and emphatic win for Marciano and one of greater will not just a one shot trick.
Why did the ref even count. Walcott needed medical help after that blow. Seriously, that was a scary KO.
Yes and showing Marciano landing a right hand, but it isnt the ko punch.I have a framed 10"by8" colour photo of the ko punch with Walcott just about to go down.
