He was good, he would not have gone as far as he did in amateurs if not good. He did have head start with Joe as his father, and had access to best sparring and training from young age. But he still had to get in and fight and win. He was better than average at best. As for his chin, average. I consider him type not meant to be boxer, but he got into it cause of who his dad was, and did ok for self.

Marvis wasn´t as successfull as his father, but to call him bum ? That´s a shame and simply show that the poster is knowing **** about this sport.

Just look at Marvis´ record. He´s beaten solid heavies like Bonecrusher Smith, who later on got a title, Jose Ribalta, James Tillis, Bernard Benton, Funso Banso, Joe Bugner, James Broad. Physically in most fights he was outsized/outweighed. You cannot beat those big guys when you´re a bum.

He maybe wasn´t gifted with the chin his father had. But getting stopped by 2 all time great heavies (one arguably among the top 3 hardest punchers of all time) does not exactly show that you´re glass chinned.

lets see KOd in one round like 20 of tysons other opponents

kod in 1 round by another elite undefeated champion who would go on to be 48-0

Hype Job? Where's the hype? Marvis beat every professional he was matched against except two. His was given a shot against Larry Holmes because Holmes had struggled against Tim Witherspoon - a fighter Marvis had beaten during his illustrious amateur career. Marvis was matched against Tyson because he had just beaten "Bonecrusher" Smith to move up to the #9 contender spot. He had also beaten James Tillis and Mitch Green, the two boxers who had gone the distance against Tyson. The Tyson management team wanted the fight with Marvis as Mike's toughest test up to that point in his career.
Glass jaw? When Marvis lost to Tyson it was the ONLY time in 79 fights (professional and amateur) that he was knocked unconscious (and he came to within seconds). Even the lost to Holmes was a TKO. Marvis was fully conscious and still defending himself when the fight was stopped with only 3 seconds left in the first round. His "jaw" was tough enough for Marvis to withstand it being broken by "Bonecrusher" Smith in the 5th round of their fight and still go on to win.
Incidentally, all of this is covered in the upcoming book about Marvis. Go to http://www.meetmarvisfrazier.com to get more information. Thanks!
