In the pro ranks, were there any other boxers from Peru who made it as far as Mina or was he the first Peruvian?
The list is pretty short on Peruvian boxers in general. I do feel he was the best of them but is largely forgotten. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Peruvian_male_boxers Only had about 5 threads on him over the past 10 years. I started one on November and got all of 1 response. So good luck
From that list I only remembered Quinones, Rivandiera and Romero. What Rivendiera and Romero did to get title shots i have no idea. I recall Quinones the most though aside from Mina. Quinones was being really pushed by the WBA (of course) until he ran into Tony Chiaverini on a Vegas card. It's funny when you think of South America and how some countries like Argentina, Columbia, Venezuela are really boxing heavy. Yet, countries like Peru, Bolivia and Paraguay are almost nil. Mina did deserve a title shot, though, with no politics involved. He was good.
