Was Mauro Mina Peru's First Boxing Megastar?

    In the pro ranks, were there any other boxers from Peru who made it as far as Mina or was he the first Peruvian?

    From that list I only remembered Quinones, Rivandiera and Romero. What Rivendiera and Romero did to get title shots i have no idea. I recall Quinones the most though aside from Mina. Quinones was being really pushed by the WBA (of course) until he ran into Tony Chiaverini on a Vegas card. It's funny when you think of South America and how some countries like Argentina, Columbia, Venezuela are really boxing heavy. Yet, countries like Peru, Bolivia and Paraguay are almost nil. Mina did deserve a title shot, though, with no politics involved. He was good.
