Actually after watching the Greb training film, Pat did state that he had a couple of kids in his gym who would beat Greb.

Yeah, he must be a poor trainer if he has GOAT-level talent on his gym and can't make them world champions :D

I have a "fetish" for science, common sense and objectivity. It was you who came up with

"Who the fukk of Liston, Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Holmes, Tyson, Holyfield, Bowe, Lewis, Klits would bother with this guy??"

"Most of these fighters lost to worse fighters than Schmeling."

If you want to talk about skill and abilities near his weight: Patterson, Walcott, Charles, young Joe Frazier, both Spinks, Byrd, Conn, Dempsey, Tunney, Usyk and Haye come up my mind who look better than him, with some imho overcome that Baer handicap too. And no, I don´t think he looks more skilled or the better fighter compared to Douglas, Moorer, Norton, forget about the ATGs these guys lost to.

Schmeling is overrated due to meeting Louis to right night, like Joe Frazier did Ali. With the unique feature of looking no way next to this career defining high in the rematch.

Science? What science are you talking about?
It's one thing to pick ATG fighters over him, but another one to call him bar room brawler who can't fight. You are free to call him overrated, although I disagree that Walcott, Young, Leon Spinks, Byrd or Haye were better fighters than him.
It would be plasuable if Schmeling didn't accomplish much other than this win. It's not true in reality - he beat Jack Sharkey, Uzcudun three times (draw was a hometown decision), Hamas, Risko, Neusel, Walker and was the only fighter to knocked out Stribling in very long career.
It's not his career defining high though, he was the champion way before Louis fight. You act like all he did is Louis fights when in reality he had successful career without these fights. He was the best HW fighter between Tunney and Louis, he got robbed against Sharkey in second fight and didn't get a chance against Braddock even though he was the best contender at that time.

Schemling had plenty of skills. One of the best counter punchers in heavyweight history.

Against the wrong style anybody could look crude and against the right style anybody could look like a master technician.

Even in the worst fight we can see from Max - Schmeling doesn't look crude. Limited and with poor strategy, but not crude.

Not crude but limited. He uses space well when he's not overpowered. He's got good anticipation and ring IQ but his tools are bit limited.

That's fair post. I think that he could have problems with bigger skilled fighters, but his smarts and skills could overcome some disadvantages. He did beat Uzcudun three times and Paulino was bigger and he was a bruiser.

If I were at the arena when he fought Joe Louis the first time, I’d pull up my phone and play sudoku.
