The most common question i was asked was "is this Maywather any good?" To which my reply was "yep, he'll probably win easily". But the general feling was that he was fighting "the best yank" which in turn would help PPV sales.

No. The proof would come in Hatton vs Rees on PPV compared with Mayweather-Rees on PPV (not that it'd ever be of course).

Ignorance was in abundance before this fight, i nearly puked myself in pubs in Luton when i was watching the weigh in, 'ur ****ed now Pretty Boy', 'he doesnt know what hes got himself into does he mate?', 'Look at Ricky..class'(at a weigh-in.

When you have a nation that is blinding by horse**** for the most part, you will get these numbers.

Its like in Ireland, you have people that Bernard Dunne will be world champion, ya suuuure, him and whos chin???

    Ignorance sells

Hardly anyone knew who Mayweather was so some of you here haven't a clue what you're talking about. The UK Media hyped it up but it could have been any decent fighter with an '0' on his record. Honestly, before the Manchester press conference 90% of the fans wouldn't have recognised Mayweather in a 2-man identity parade, with the other candidate being Billie Jean King.

It isn't both. Mayweather helped the sales a bit but the reason they were 'decent' was hatton. Ali-Frazier in Manila attracted far more attention than Ali-Bugner, also in Asia, the same year. The Bugner fight had shitloads of empty seats, it was nowhere near as big a fight as 'the thrilla'. Frazier helped the sales of course, but Ali was still the main attraction.

Until Hatton does a million PPV sales against someone else it was both.

Hatton of course. Nobody knows who the **** Mayweather is. It was just marketed extremely well, constantly ramming down our throats how Mayweather is the best, and hence people wanted to see if the Brit could topple him

    Hatton was the reason.

Mayweather contributed, but Hatton was the reason.

If it was mayweather v cotto or oscar it would have just been on normal sky. But because of the huge support hatton generates it is why it did well in the UK.

hatton, but going against a fighter like floyd obviously helped.

it wouldn't do that type of ppv numbers if hatton fought chop chop corley or joe schmo or whatever.
