I ask because people have labelled Victor Ortiz and Junior Witter quitters. Surely Hunter must be even worse by this definition? He was fighting in his hometown against molitor and quit in front of all his fans. Then when the going got tough against Booth he screamed "PULL ME OUT!!!" to his corner men and then quit in the fight as well.
Never a nice thing to say about a fighter or a man but yes i believe he was. I respect him for getting in the ring and all fighters can do as they like if they feel there taking a beating...but Michael i personally lost respect for because of his actions. I recently rewatched the Molitor fight (analyzing the Booth bout) and it wasn't like he was taking a beating, soon as the going got tough he jacked it in....i can't respect that. Especially when guys have died fighting for titles....but as said he gets in the ring..he puts his life on the line and if he feels he can't beat someone who am i to say otherwise. It's always dangerous to ask fighters to push themselves beyond the call of duty (Thread made about that if you check) But i personally believe that Michael could of got up and gave it one more go and got stopped on his shield.
I echo the same thoughts as Mandanda. Although if the only Hunter fight you had seen was the Pickering one, then you would be baffled as to his name even being associated with the word 'quit'.
Livra compare the Munroe fight from yesterday and Molitor Hunter bout......Rendall could of easily went over or not thrown back..but he didn't he threw back like a warrior. I also noticed Michael jacked the game in after his mum's death then came back....i wonder if his heart was fully in the sport in first place or the Molitor fight broke him mentally....some fighters can't handle a loss.
Yes, it's not a nice thing to say about a fighter but he did indeed quit. Of all the fighters in the 122 division, Molitor is not the type of fighter you'd see making someone quit but Hunter just seemed to fall apart.
We don't do this kind of thing here in the British forum. We understand that being a boxer is incredibly hard as it is, and talkking about quitting when somebody gives it all they have for their career is uncalled for.
If he quit of course he's a 'quitter'. But the thing is everyone has different tolerance levels of what they can take physically and mentally. Some have less than others. Who's to say that on the night Hunter could have taken any more than he actually did? I don't think Hunter wanted to lose a world title fight. Maybe that was his 100% and he'd had enough? It's not always cut and dry thats for sure.
I really don't like labelling any fighters as "quitters", because I couldn't possibly imagine what they're going through when they retire themselves from a fight. However, it does disappoint me when a boxer simply decides he's in with a better opponent and pulls the plug prematurely, without digging too deep.
I guess that things were not right for him that night...:yep I am not liking the term quitter getting attached to the name of Michael Hunter, he was not a quitter...:nono I have enjoyed some great nights watching Michael Hunter, I woud appreciate it if this thread does not turn out to be his legacy on this site...:yep He gave us some great nights of boxing...:good
I think alot of things went against Hunter mentally that night. To call him a quitter is disapointing ad uncalled for to be honest...however he did quit the fight and then the sport. Hunter was a great warrior and gave us boxing fans many great nights and lots of blood and sweat. I respect all boxers and Hunter more than many.
