Was Miguel Cotto at his best when he fought Pacquiao?

Pacquiao would always beat Cotto in my opinion, but Santiago was trash as a trainer. Nothing against him, he just isn't a boxing trainer...and Cotto has looked better since.

Same Cotto just used the wrong gameplan. A second fight would be closer, I think. Although, I would still favor Pac. He's a good measure too fast for Cotto's pace.

No he wasn't, he had recently been pummeled with a brick.

I saw a lot openings against Pacquiao, defensively Cotto could have done a lot of things differently. If Cotto was more sharper defensively and offensively the fight would have been closer. He looked really good when he beat Yuri Foreman and Mayoraga, Steward obviously is a much more component trainer than Santiago and it showed. Diaz is also a good trainer.

He was in good shape physically but lacked a game plan. I think he would aways struggle with pac's speed and pac would find enough openings in cottos defense. But it would have been interesting to see steward train him for that fight and have a steward and roach show down on 24/7 and see what kind of strategies they develop.

  6. He looked a bit too drained.. regardless of what he weighed during the weigh in 145, who knows if he was down to 143 prior to the weigh in... he was pale and dead looking in that fight.

A-side is nothing to play with. You gotta have your A-game.

Everyone knows he wasnt, the fight was originally schedule for Dec. as well but rush for Nov. Cotto was going through some personal problems and even going through a lawsuit. Training himself basically and not having hunger for the sport as he said, aside from the demands from Manny esp. the weight at 145. And are we forgetting about his right shoulder, an injury he has been dealing for almost 4 years...

I wouldn't let Joe Santiago train any of the kids I do at the gym, I don't rate him at-all.

Cotto was at his best. Probably not the best trainer. But physically Cotto was at his peak.

There is a very good reason Manny and Roach made him drop 2lbs and fight at a bull**** catchweight. They knew he wouldn't be effective and they were right.

He was pretty damn close, he just fell into the trap of believing he was the bigger stronger guy. If you watch closely he was doing really well until he got reckless broke from his gameplan and tried to bull pac with his hands down and got caught with a shot a he never really recovered from.

If you ask me that was def Pac at his best though

I'd be really interested to see these two fight all over again. Do I think the final result would be different yes and no...Yes, because the Cotto from last night will hurt Pac and no, because i think that PAC will ultimately win the majority of rounds.

Cotto was at his best when he fought Pac. Cotto's style can't prepare him for Pacquiao speed and angles.

Cotto is a bigger version of Barrera, and i can't see Cotto winning except to make a rematch closer ala Pac-Barrera II. Manny's speed, combinations, angles, and relentlessness will always be a problem so a rematch would be pointless.
