Honestly, there wasn't too much mentally weak about him as a fighter prior to his Indiana prison stint.

    Great point

Mike would never have quit the way ***** Vitali or Victor did.

    VITALI-- VICTOR.

EVEN THEIR NAMES SOUND ALIKE.. JESUS CHRIST

Yep, he just wasn't trained properly.

Props to Douglas, he fought a great fight & would've been a handful that night even if Tyson had showed up in shape.

Yeah, I'm just not too keen on the mentally weak bull****. I'd rather give Douglas credit for his remarkable win. Douglas is maybe the last fight aside from the Ruddock wars I'd use to show pre-prison Mike being a mentally weak fighter, honestly. He came out lethargic from the opening bell, took a hellacious beating and was throwing back until the very end; even managed to floor Douglas well, well into it.

Definately not mentally weak, undisciplined yes.

A mentally weak fighter doesn't take a beating for 10 rounds & almost win by K.O.

A mentally weak fighter doesn't come back & beat a fighter that gave Holyfield all he could handle, then go to war for 19 rounds with a fighter that everybody else was avoiding.

Of course he was he was only 23 years old. i realise people peak at different ages/times in their career, but NO ONE is past it at age 23, in fact most boxers have barley reached their prime at that age let alone pass it.

Tyson just had a bad night . It happens.

Douglas is also massively underrated by Tyson Haters.

The Douglas of that night could have beaten at least 90% of ATGS.

Also a bit off topic but

Lennox Lewis's prime started a bit after the first Mccall Lost

    and ended right before Rahman.

An incredible performance by Douglas who boxed the way everyone knew he could if he ever applied himself 100% to his trade juxtaposed with a champion who all but thought along with everyone else that he had only to turn up to win as was becoming the accepted feature with all tyson's fights. We all saw him as unbeatable & so did Mike & his cronies & this night was as near as you can get to yin & yang.

Buster just dose'nt get enough credit for his performence, he was absolutly textbook superb & i don't see him being beat by anyone that night not even Evander/Bowe or Ruddock IMHO.

Physically, of course. At 23, he may not have reached it yet.

Mentally, he was already shot for a few fights.

Tyson was in his prime.Buster trained his ass off and was highly motivated. Douglas came in the fight in great shape and fought like a man posessed that night even climbed off the canvas to win, he wouldnt be denied. Douglas would have beat any version of Tyson on that night because he wanted it more. Buster made Tyson look bad that night not the absence of Kevin Rooney. Give Buster his respect and stop making excuses for Mike.

Yes of course he was. He was only what, like 23? Problem was he stopped giving a **** about training and got rid of the people who helped him get to the top. I love Tyson, but seriously what a ****ing moron.

One really shouldn't be out of prime at the age of 24.
