I think a prime Tyson would have struggled with either of the Klitschko brothers due the massive differences in size and a prime Lewis would have still beaten Tyson IMO. But in boxing especially the heavy's you just never know.
88 Larry Holmes </= 2011-2013 Vitali Klitschko. 84 Trevor Berbick </= 2013 Tomasz Adamek 87 Tony Tucker </= 2013 Kubrat Pulev 88 Spinks </= 2013 Haye 87 Pinklon Thomas </= 2013 Odlanier Solis 88 Tony Tubbs </= 2013 Robert Helenius 89 Frank Bruno </= Tyson Fury etc etc etc. Not saying the above guys would beat the modern comparisons, just in terms of ranking. If making a Wilder/Tyson comparison......it should be more like comparing 2013 Wilder to 1985 Mike Tyson. Then it would be the----- "Mercedes to Ribalta"---- Tyson......the guy ppl feared yet had not proven himself. The Mike Tyson that the OP was referencing in his opener, is the Mike Tyson who cut a path right through the top 30, beating every big name who dared to share the ring with him. Tyson was also worth a ton of money by 87. So every big HW wanted that payday. And he was gladly giving them their cashouts. Should Wilder accept DelBoys, Monte Barretts, and then Furys challenge.....run through them as Tyson did Ribalta, Berbick and Thomas....then he gets a 39 y/o Wladimir and knocks him around the ring for 3 rds before KOing him......the the obvious comparisons can begin. But Wilder is at least 4 huge wins atop the division before even the slightest parallels can be drawn.deal:deal
I disagree, Tyson in his primes movement, footwork and defense were unreal. I think the Klitschko's jabs are both too slow to work effectively against him. Tyson would get in range on Wlad and land devestating shots that I don't believe Wlad could handle. Vitali would be more interesting prime as his chin was superb, in the later rounds cardio and size could come into it, if Tyson lost his tenacity possibly Vitali could take it. Still favour Tyson. Lewis is probably the toughest match up for him but in his prime I think he'd knock Lewis out.
I could see 1998-2010 Vitali Klitschko beating any version of Mike Tyson, but I think the unbeaten Tyson who was murdering the top dogs of the division would beat any version of Lewis or Wladimir. Douglas had an iron chin and iron will that night in Tokyo. He absorbed shots that would have seen any version of Lewis or Wladimir out on their feet or staring up at hazy lights.:think:think:think
Looks like you beat me to it.....except I would favor Vitali simply because his power and composed rage in the ring would come into play and Tyson's lunging in would definitely bring out Vitali's poised aggression.:good:good:good
Buster Douglas disagrees. And now don't come up with his prime etc. When he fought Douglas, he was 23.
Crazy. He fought in the worst era of HW boxing of all time. Late 80's. He is a tiny HW. How would that make a specimen? A specimen is Wlad. 6'5 250 of pure muscle and speed.
:rofl:roflnut. Lewis Lite is indeed a specimen. Even Lennox have this to say about Lewis Lite 'Wladimir (Lewis Lite) is the closest thing to me'. But only utter ***gots drink 'Lite'
Tyson had a boxing, fighting style that was unsustainable in the long run, it required immense regular training and hard work. It's not humanly possible to keep the training intensity up indefinitely in the face of so many temptations
Tyson was great against bums but couldn't handle pressure. Especially European fighters were his kryptonite.
