nothing to discuss...he was very weak mentally. Anybody see the interview he did on Oprah about the Holyfield fight? That was proof he was weak mentally...that and the post interview of the McBride fight
Tough to say ..I beleive at the end of his career you could see his mind slipping but once he lost the killer instinc his emotions went crazy ..
No, mentally he's a ****ing loon! But definitely not weak. Reason he could never win all those big fights was because he didn't have the abilty to adjust, not because he lacked mental fortitude.
Bullies who are always the hardest dude in the block, when they get to face someone tougher, harder, and someone who hits back, it messes up their minds and they don't know what to do.
i really doubt this counts as a thread worthy topic. just watch one interview of his and its clear as day he is nuttier then the bottom of a *****
When he was young, id say no not really. I mean he gave Douglas a hell of a fight he just was unprepared and seriously underestimated him but he had heart in that fight that is for sure. Towards the end of his career he didnt care anymore and he fully admitted that. That one fight when he was on the canvas and just sitting there he could have gotten up but he just didnt care anymore. I dont give him nearly as much flack as some do for the holyfield incident. Holy was a notorious headbutter and Tyson had a short fuse which we all know and he was frustrated. I mean i know that is a huge infraction in boxing to bite someones ear but i dont think its much worse when its retaliation for blatant repeated headbutting
I fully agree. He was mentally weak in the sense that he was unstable and crazy... but I dont believe he was weak in the sense that he lacked heart to fight back in a tough fight atleast not early in his career. Later on he certainly did but not in the beginning.
Tyson was build on unbalanced foundations, he's not what you'd call a dynamically strong fighter but it became very clear where he is strong and isn't. In saying that, I have seen most of his career and think there wern't many fights where he didn't show off his freakish strengths as a fighter.
in some respects certainly, but the man is a survivor and has plenty of street smarts. obviously lacked self discipline and the dedication to maintain greatness and is obviously very reckless/foolsih with money and all kinds of ****, but he managed to keep himself in demand all these years and is still living somewhat comfortably and has some **** lined up (even if he's declared bankruptcy). he also left the game with most of his mind intact unlike a lot of greats and his contemporaries
