Strange thought.. but if fights were only scheduled for one round, who do you think the best heavyweight of all time would have been? I pick Mike Tyson as his power was for all to see, and in his prime he could stalk a guy down with speed and terrific combination punching.

Any thoughts on this really stupid question?

    Interesting.

I agree. A good example is Mike Tyson's first round effort against Lennox Lewis. He basically had next to no chance in that fight but he won the first round on the aggression (got spanked with two huge uppercuts too though).

I believe he had 23 first round KO's.. thats including the DQ he got over Peter McNeeley when McNeeley's corner jumped into the ring to stop the fight

I think an argument could be made for Tyson, Foreman, or Dempsey.

Jack Dempsey has the record for knockouts in the first round.

BUT.... There's noone in the history of the sport that would be able to KO Mike in one round, period.

The simple fact is that fights have never been scheduled for one single round. If in fact they were then EVERYBODY would fight differently. Plodders, planners, jabbers and grabbers would all be forced to change the way they fight. With this "variable change" it's impossible to assess where Tyson stands. I'd imagine a guy like Wlad Klitschko would have a record of about 20-20 with all of his wins and losses coming by KO. Lucky for him, fights are 12 rounds long!
