It will be hard topping Lawler vs. Condit for the UFC or any lesser org, unless they have a rematch. Can anyone name a fight in 2015 even as good? Safe to say that had it taken place a week earlier this would've been hands down FOTY, no? :think
Yeah I kinda agree I can't think of any fight that's gonna top that Dominick Cruz vs TJ Dillashaw is gonna be cool but I doubt it'll top it.

The round of the year was. In the moment, it looked like an amazing fight but there was one big moment in rd1 and 2, ok rd 3 and 4 and then amazing rd5. It was a great fight but the finale makes it look better than it is. Leonard vs Hearns is considered an absolute war but the reality is that it was a technical fight but the last few rounds were amazing and that's what people remember. The 5th round was incredible because rarely to fighters ACTUALLY TRADE. Usually, they pick their moments as trading (even for brawlers) is just too risky and gung ho. It's a dice throw. However Condit and Lawler did literally trade and even when hurt and tired they still didn't wisen up but instead laid it all on the line.
achilles, yeah, fair point - through four I thought you could actually have argued Condit was up four zip (Lawler arguably stealing round two on most people's cards despite having lost three minutes and change of it) so it does lack the sort of momentum shifts you'd typically seek in a FOTY candidate.
I thought it would be a contentious fight because Condit was going for volume while Lawler was going for damage. Lawler seems to always keep something in the tank for late. Alot of Condits shots weren't that great. He'd step in with multiple shots but not many landed or landed clean, but he was working. Round 3 seems the contentious round. I need to watch it again because I wasn't scoring, just enjoying.
My thoughts exactly. :good That's why Robbie is a great champ - he still fights to the end bell. GSP would have been going for TD after TD had he been in there. Fair play to Condit, though. His chin is something else! Robbie landed BOMBS on him and he was still there. Also it was great to see the ending when they were both d****d over the cage. Great to see that. They both gave it their all. Neither man had nothing left. Round 5 was awesome. Condit's variety of combos is something to behold, IMO. Very creative fighter.
As soon as I saw that, I thought it's an iconic picture that should last for many years to come. It epitomises what we want to see - fighters quite literally leaving it all in the ring/cage. Totally exhausted and needing to increase the chest/rib cage to get in vital oxygen.
I thought the fight was good not great but that round 5 was incredible I do take in context that Condit was beating the **** out of Lawler in round 4 and I thought Lawler was gonna be finished Round 1 2 and 3 didnt have much outside the Lawler knockdown
That was a GREAT image. Both side by side, in the same boat, clearly bonded in blood without having to even display any traditional gestures of sportsmanship or so much as look at each other.
