Was Muhammad Ali the fastest heavyweight of all time?

The words “total knowledge” and “written down on the back of a postage stamp” spring to mind.

 

Just shows the difference in information between 1977 and now. Today if a 19 year old did a public sparring session with a top heavyweight and had to take it easy on him to the point of walking away after hitting him with combinations, it would be big news in the boxing world and would be all over the internet and the message boards. Dokes showed much restraint for a teenager, he could have taken advantage of Ali's condition and given Ali a beating and made a name for himself. Instead, Dokes just threw light combinations and allowed Ali to talk and entertain the crowd. Dokes deserves respect for that.

 

If Dokes opened right up Ali would have flattened him if need be lets be serious. Ali ****ed around in sparring for much of his career. He didn't throw a single serious punch in 3 rounds.

 

Is this even up for debate?? It's a bit like asking if Usain Bolt is the fastest ever sprinter.

In your previous post you were more or less saying that Dokes was the master and Ali was the pupil.

I watched the vid of Dokes and Ali,Ali was just playin. Seemed to be his strategy as he got older to let the opponent empty their gas tank. If was for real and over 12 rounds,youd see Ali start upping the ante late. He did pay a price for such a strategy as his health deteriorated though.

 

Dokes was clearly playing along as well. Don’t forget it wasn’t even a serious sparring session but a exhibition.

Dokes did play along, but Dokes established early in the exhibition that he was faster and better conditioned. Ali knew it too. Ali would have opened up if he could, but whenever he did more than Dokes was comfortable with, Dokes would come back with a light combination that let Ali know not to push things. If they had both trained for the next month and Ali fought Dokes instead of Evangelista, I have no doubt that the 5-0, 19 year old, under 200 pound Dokes would have been the youngest champion in history.

I'd pick Sonny Liston George Foreman, and Joe Frazier over every one you named.... But especially Wilder, who was what the post was actually about.

 

Disagree,i believe Ali had incredible stamina and conditioning built up over many years and would of soaked up the young bucks offence. Note Ali has quite a reach advantage and didnt even throw 1 jab.
