    Yes im asking this question...

I dont believe that for a minute, but due to specific circumstances I need some points to argue for it being a fluke

I mean...the fight was in 1973, after the Frazier fight, perhaps he was "past" it? He did also break his jaw during the fight...that may contribute to the argument that it was a "fluke"

Or is that question generally ******ed?
^To what extent is that comment ******ed?

Not even close to a fluke. If you did not have a huge punch capable of hurting Norton, he was a beast and a handful for anyone. Even a bit later he fought on very even terms for 15 rounds against Larry Holmes in his absolute prime. Norton had a style that gave Ali fits in all 3 fights between them. It was definitely not a fluke.

Norton had his number, in my opinion he won their trilogy 2-1

Depends how you look at it... Norton was a good boxer & had a good style to trouble Ali but Ali underrated him, wasnt in the best shape, got a broken jaw which almost never happens & won the rematch when both were 100% but was still troubled in the 2nd half of that rematch due to the style thing, the decision was close but clear IMO tho.

I wont argue with your 2-1 score as long as the 1 for Ali is fight 2.

Also... having someones number would lead to 3-0, not 2-1, no ?

Obviously he means the official win in fight 1, not everyone will have the exact same opinion as you.

No fluke, he was just an above average fighter with a terribly tricky style for Ali.

Norton gave Ali hell in the rematches and damn near beat Holmes, so I can't call it a fluke.

Thats the same conclusion i have come to

Its no coincidence that Eddie Futch trained 4/5 of the fighters that beat Ali

Agreed. Ali's 'charisma' & big personality allowed him to get away with a lot.

    Thanks....

But seriously, IMHO, one of the few guys to outjab Ali.

Like I said, just IMHO (obviously I'm just borrowing/honouring the late great Eddie's name)

How could it be a fluke? With proper scoring Norton would've won the 3rd fight aswell as their 1st.

yeah ali won the second fight, ali was more talented but already past prime and just stylistically norton troubled him, I guess its able to overcome that but very difficult, look at pac vs marquez how deep he had to go to get the win.
