Was Oliver McCall just looking for a way out in the Lewis rematch?

My buddy and I were actually ringside for that fight. It was the undercard for the Terry Norris - Vincent Pettway fight.

 

You can't pick and choose or fake a breakdown like that.

 

What happened with Mike and Golota?

Definitely not a work. He was clearly having a breakdown. I don't it had anything to do with Lewis or the potential outcome of the fight

McCall looked like McCall for some rounds. He was trying like crazy to set up a right hand ambush but Lewis was a different fighter at this point and was effectively cautious. He became confident without any sloppiness and really came on, might have been the third round. Man he hit McCall with some hard shots but there was still no openings for Oliver. Reality definitely set in you are right.

 

Just rewatched that. I think Lennox holds off on his punches a bit. If you think it's crazy for the viewer imagine being in the ring with a boxer not fighting back offering free shots. McCall could have been seriously injured if Lennox really commited to a KO

 

Yes it was a legitimate breakdown, and he probably shouldn't even have been in the ring to be honest.

His drug and mental health problems in the run up to the fight, are very well documented.

 

Yes, you can almost see Lewis thinking "this is getting dangerous, how do I force then to stop the fight, without seriously hurting the guy!"

 

Perhaps a product of Don King. I dont believe his top priority was about the well being of his fighters. They were slaves and interchangeable. The training camp King had for his stable was a drug den.

I thought he had a legit breakdown. You could tell by his facial mannersims.

If he just wanted to quit he coild have done a sudden No Mas a la Duran..

He was out if his mind lettng Lewis have free shots at his chin.

 

Pressure.

How do guys handle pressure? In their first bout we did not see much of this factor because the ref waved it off. But the way McCall was amped up, how would he have looked in the 7th round?

The rematch had a lot of pressure. And every now and then we see fighters just not react well at all to the demands of all that pressure on their shoulders.

Later on McCall handled things better pressure wise, but his A game was hardly elite. But he was a guy that could show up with his B game and do okay because of those whiskers. Lots of other guys show up with their B game and they do not make it to the finish line.

 

Yeah, uncontrollable tears, when a person chest is pounding like that...thats usually how a kid behaves/breathes after the belt got applied for doing something wrong. Well. sometimes beforehand if one thinks it can prevent the whoopping!

I won't do it no mo' I sorry I m sorreeeeey mama! All joking aside, this video tells me he has his faculties and for 2017...nice to know he knew of Ruiz! Said he wasnt big but could fight...So glad to know Oliver recovered to some degree.
