Nah, I got Louis or Shavers on that one. By Holmes? own admission Earnie hit harder. Irrelevant though... Hitting hard is good, but what really matters is finishing ability overall. If you can't apply your power well, what's the point?

This. Got to be Joe Louis for me, that 1 round KO of Schmeling is frightening. :rasta

It depends really, i'd say no because of the fact that Norton and Ali said Shavers hit harder.

But then you have different types of power aswell, so it's hard to gauge

Smaller gloves in that era though....besides, I wouldn't be surprised if Louis had loaded gloves in that fight. He would have won anyway, but Schmeling took many punches from Louis in the first fight and from Baer, he was nevr KO'd early before or after. If you watch the impact of Louis punches that night, it doesn't look like just the effect from a hard puncher. There was so much at stake, the whole Nazi propagande the US needed to defeat, if ever there was understandable reasons to cheat in a fight it would be this one.
