    Is John Ruiz featherfisted?

I have been pondering this, because Jones took some of his shots. And Jones obviously has a glass jaw. In the first round Ruiz ran at him. The 1st round was probably the only round you could honestly give to Ruiz. But he landed like 3 right hands in the row. The last of the three looked like Jones got a little hurt by it, but nothing serious as he seemed to wake him up and he hit Ruiz with a big right hand.

Later on Ruiz landed more Right hands and Jones took them well, and anyone can watch the fight, it is apparent.

In the past Ruiz had Holyfield all over the place in their fight and was like a few punches away from KOing holy. Yea holy was past prime, but this was in 00, not to long after his fight with Lewis where he gave a decent account of himself, although he was past it. Then KD and had Kirk Johnson wobbling over the place. But then he fought Rahman, he wobbled Rahman, but didn't KO him. And people say Rahman has a glass jaw so this makes one wonder -- although Rahman did get through a rematch with Tua without being really hurt much. Then there is Golota... Golota gets blasted out in the early rounds as that is when he is at his weakest, I have not seen the fight with Golota so I do not know if he ever hurt him.

So this brings up the question, does Ruiz have featherfist?

Ruiz has either average or good power, he's not featherfisted and his style goes more for points than KO's.

I think that's the point of the post (and that the statement was facetious) - either Jones had a glass jaw, or Ruiz was featherfisted. Can't have it both ways. It's not like Ruiz had poor power, and he was a heavyweight, so people are probably underrating Jones' chin, at least at that point in time.

Ruiz wears opponents down through the jab and grab. Slowly lulling them into a false sense of security, then he drops the sneaky right hand™ to do some damage.

Ruiz's power is medium. He can put some hurt on, but he's not a one punch KO guy.

Decent power. The punch and grab started after he got brutally knocked out by Tua. I've seen his amatuer fights and he was a hell of a boxer at LHW. He could not bring that game to the HW division and so you have what his style is today that many hate.

Interesting. I remember before the Tua destruction Larry Merchant saying that Ruiz was a good young prospect and how this is tua's first real challenge. They said Ruiz was a stablemate of Lewis. Said he was a boxer-puncher, or something of the sort that had some pretty good skills. Then he got KO'D like he did, and formed that strange style, which worked for him, but displeased so many fight fans. Needless to say, I think the disrespect for him is horrible. Many people would not have come back after that devastating KO by Tua, he not only did, but his chin was not destroyed by it.

    *sigh*

For the last ****ing time, Jones did not have a glass jaw.

The only time his punch resistance let him done was when way past his prime after shedding 18 pounds of solid muscle.

How many ****ing times do you have to say the same **** over and over and over again?

Ruiz is under-rated. Some day I hope he will get the credit he is due, he shys away from no single opponent. His power? He knocked Golota down didnt he? He knocked Jones across the ring with a body shot in the first round didnt he? Ruiz has good power, but he's no where among the Klitschko's in terms of power. He's a very durable fighter, and outside of the Tua loss, he is a tough man to fight and defeat.

I actually knew him very well back in the day. I remember his step-dad yelling at him while driving and Johnny doing his road work. I also remember him being brought out the the popular courts in Chelsea and he would spar streetfighters. Good guy and will always be remembered for being the first latino HW champion. I hope Zakman doesn't see this post, he hates John with a capital H.
