Was or is John "The Quiet Man" Ruiz featherfisted?

I don't know about you but I could not even score a Ruiz fight. They were so bad that often do to all of his throwing 1 punch (which didn't even land half the time) and then lunging forward and grabbing or hugging his opponent I found it hard to score the fights.

Sure Ruiz made a few bucks, but nobody wants to see the guy fight. His biggest payday was in a gimmick fight. There was a reason Roy handpicked Ruiz and it was because he knew the guy had no skill, not much 1 KO punch power and the guy can't fight within the rules to save his life. For you to say Ruiz did not duck anyone is laughable because as I said earlier the guy had no choice but to fight whoever King told him to. Ruiz had nobody wanting to fight him there was no way for Ruiz to bargain or leverage with King. For John Ruiz to make any money he had to fight whoever his daddy Don King told him to fight.

That is a catch 22. You just said John ducked, but then you go on to say King is his daddy and he puts whoever he wants in front of John. If this is what you think, then John never ducked anyone and fought whoever (or King) put in front of him. Come on now, fight Ruiz or Klitsko?

I am just a guy that grew up in Chelsea, MA where he grew up and know him personally. I was in the Police Academy when he beat Holyfield and drank all night for free due to picking him. Maybe you don't understand it, but knowing someone like him and then seeing him on HBO or PPV was an exciting thing. It is a shame though, he has good skills, but not at HW. He was a very good LHW and remember he was touted as the next good HW boxer on the night of the champs on HBO where he got knocked out by Tua.

Ruiz ducked big punchers for his entire post-Tua career, and that's a fact. The only guy he ever fought after then that could even be considered a puncher is Rahman and that was because he had no choice, it was a fight for the vacant paper title that Roy Jones took from him and his only chance at another pay day

Yes, and he rocked him how many times? Who were the big punchers he ducked that were in the top ten? Again, most of this fights were against high ranking fighters. Point is, he is not featherfisted and RJJ does not have a glass jaw. Oh, Holyfield was not a big puncher? He just adapted from that Tua fight to a style that most fans hate. You have to do what you have to do to win. When I fought back in the day, I would not take any unnessary punches to prove I can take a punch. Would you?

Actually, Oquendo is not a bad fighter. I thought he edged Byrd, but they gave it to Byrd.

I have a lot of respect for Ruiz. i'm not going to be purchasing a career set anytime soon, but I've seen quite a few of his fights and have the utmost respect for his heart and determination, if not his style.

And haters, be real, if you could do what Jawny does the same way, tell me you wouldn't. I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Ruiz will always have my respect as a fan, and I think anyone who doesn't show respect for what he does is just a flat-out hater.

WITHIN the rules! What Ruiz did was to violate, repeatedly, one of he oldest rules in modern boxing, the prohibition against excessive holding. And his connection to a powerful promoter allowed him to get away with it.

Even worse was his blatant faking of "low blows" in at least three fights to get crucial point deductions, avoid being counted out when hit with a body shot, or force a bogus DQ.

Ruiz is a fraud, a cheater, and a disgrace to the sport of boxing. Without King, he's a regional titleholder at best.

He seems to get jobbed a lot, Oquendo, that is. He definitely beat Byrd and Toney.

Those right hands in the first round was short, almost chopping punches coming out of a clinch, that didn't have full leverage on them. Even so, Roy was wobbled by them, just from the sheer weight behind them.

Ruiz was only an effective puncher if he snuck his right hand in just right, without his opponent seeing it coming (like he did vs. Holyfield). Other than that, he was no puncher.
