While you are correct, the salient point is being missed.

How in the world could all 3 judges have Wilder up 1 point BEFORE the stoppage? That isn't factoring in the knockdowns. Boxing is still as corrupt as ever. It didn't matter, but seriously, how could you have Wilder ahead? No one did aside from the judges. I'm looking through the RBR from various sites and basically everyone had it Ortiz by 2 points+.

 

Ortiz tasting canvas three times rules out the ability of people to claim he was about to get robbed. He didn't win all of the rounds that he didn't get knocked down in.

 

Ortiz was two points (rounds) ahead (at least!) on almost every scorecard in the RBR thread.
I even rewatched the match and scored it with a new look and definitely a bit more neutral and Ortiz was still two rounds ahead.
It would have been the biggest robbery of the century for sure.

Could have been a case of the right man winning by an overly wide margin. There were three rounds left and Ortiz was fading — Wilder could have swept those rounds, and that would have been enough for him to be favored on a reasonable scorecard (widely favored on the house scorecards).

After 9 completed rounds anyone who knows the slightest thing about boxing would have had Ortiz up on the cards by 3 to 4 points. The US TV and U.K. TV both unofficially had Ortiz up by 3 rounds and were arguing it could be 4.

How the hell did the three US judges at ringside have Wilder ahead after the 9 completed rounds cards that had been submitted before the 10th began.

In the event that this fight went the distance this fight was going to Wilder on the cards irrespective of him being outboxed

 

This is true. The cards at that point though were pretty shameful mate and I've given Wilder a LOT of credit for beating a top guy by KO and showing a ton of heart and sturdy mandible to do so.

A friend of mine summed it up nicely the next day saying "the crazy thing about Wilder is he never really looks like he's going to win right up until he has" which I wholeheartedly agree with - I mean the man made Szpilka look like Sugar Ray in spots but still laid him out cold eventually.

according to the scorecards YES!! did you see the official scorecards. all 3 judges had deontay winning, which is INSANE

 

That’s not the point being discussed here, we know Wilder won by stoppage. The point is it seems there was a back up plan should Wilder not been able to stop Ortiz.

The fix was in but wasn’t needed but it was in just the same!

 

Why was that round where Wilder is in serious trouble dimmed so that we couldn't see it all? I noticed that Wilder was using elbow smashes following his punches with ref approval.

 

The scoring is one thing...,,
But in addition to that...You have to acknowledge the rules being broken by giving Wilder 20 seconds to recover from being close to knocked down.

When a fighter is clearly hurt and the aggressor is about to close the show, you do not stop the fight and let him go and be checked by the doctor during a fight, you wait till after the bell and do that during the break.

The official scores were in the correct range, maybe slightly pro Wilder. Some of the Wilder haters on this thread would have robbed HIM if Ortiz had lasted through 12. People saying 7 to 2 for Ortiz!? Wtf, talk about bias.
