Not as far as I know. De La Hoya can't be critisized here it must be said. He fought the premier fighters at welterweight, Trinidad and Quartey, who were equally as dangerous as Forrest on paper and brought more money to the table at the same time. To awnser your question more simply, Forrest was interested in fighting De La Hoya. Not the other way around.
No, I was making the point that Forrest by beating Mosley twice. Was in the position to get a big money fight against someone such as De La Hoya. But he ruined any chance of that by Losing to a relatively obscure Ricardo Mayorga(At the time). Which is exactly why Cooney's Management didn't want to risk a Huge payday against Holmes by possibly having Cooney lose in a lower demand fight as Weaver. Between Norton and Holmes, Cooney hadn't fought in over a year.
I don't think so. Too much risk for too little reward. Around this time, he fought Fernando Vargas, and wanted to rematch Shane Mosley. Mosley and DLH couldn't agree on money at first, so DLH fought Campas in May 03', and then DLH and Mosley were able to come to terms on a deal for a rematch.
