Among all their encounters, this one stood as the weirdest to me. All the HBO commentary hyping Manny with Lederman having him as a winner yet, despite not going that bad, the perfomance looked to me comparable with the Mosley fight and the match was in not any way on par with their previous, explosive, so difficult to score, wars. I mean, he's still Manny, his superb footwork was still there and he could pop off with them combinations but at the same time he was way more tentative, gunshy for short lapses, almost as JMM finally figured him out, shutting him and predictin' the chaos that their last encounter would have generated despite still being a competitive rivalry. I remember reading that Marquez corner told him to chill out in the last rounds because they thought they got the fight and that, compared to what appeared was a slight decline from Manny and a fight that was less beautiful than the previous two, gave me such an Alì-Norton III vibe lmao Also I remember Arum saying something to JMM by the end, almost comforting him for the L and looking like he said "Politics are politics, business is business" or sum sheet like that lmaooo
Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel Marquez 3 1 Pacquiao 2 Marquez 3 Pacquiao 4 Pacquiao 5 Marquez 6 Pacquiao 7 Marquez 8 Marquez 9 Marquez 10 Marquez 11 Pacquiao 12 Pacquiao 114-114 Draw For me this was Pacquiao's best performance vs Marquez in regards to his defence Pacquiao fought a more tactical fight this time around and got hit far less. Pacquiao's footwork was also better here than it was in fights 1 and 2, as he kept his positioning alot better and wasn't off balance as much. I felt like Marquez stepped it up after round 6 as Marquez had to lead a bit more in this fight to have success. He landed mostly all the telling blows for me in rounds 7-10 especially with the right hand. Lederman had Pacquiao winning most of the rounds after 7 rounds which i totally disagreed with. But i felt like Marquez dropped the ball in the last 2 rounds when he cut Pacquiao and let his foot off the gas and fought too cautiously from then on allowing Pacquiao to win the last 2 rounds to earn a draw on my card. Overall the most boring fight of the trilogy but i still found it riveting to watch regardless. I think this fight had the most swing rounds out of all the fights they had.
Wasn't a robbery, it was a close fight. And Marquez seemed to always get the short end of a close fight against Manny . Most Marquez fans think he took 3 fights
Seems to be a common opinion, I can't find my scorecard but I remember being the clearest W. I remember people comparing it to Bradley-Pac but now that's forced lmao
At last viewing I think I had Pac by 3 rds. Not at all controversial to me. I think everyone was just so set on that Pac would just blow JMM out that it coloured how they viewed what instead became a competitive outcome.
Neither of those things. An optimal card would have Marquez the winner, but there was enough confusion that it can't be deemed a robbery.
I had pac winning 115-113, but it was another close fight that i would have had no argument either way. JMM was always on even terms with Pacquiao in their 3 fights prior to the 4th.
Fair, a trilogy where either fighter could have been the winner is some of the most peculiar things of the sport and just adds pepper to one of the greatest rivalries ever.
Sure, my point is that I love how different everyone scorecard is and how it is such a quirky mess of trilogy these two produced: you got users like you and then one who claims they are 2-1, another 3-0, ecc. ecc. Think I'm gonna tag you in another thread I read when I was lurkin tho
