I'd always thought Broner would be too much for Ricky, but seeing how Rees & Pauli got to him with relative ease, I think Ricky's sharp work would cause Broner problems. Ricky punches with a bit of spite nowadays too, which would see him fare better than Rees or Pauli did.

Broner didn't impress me one bit last night.

  2. This fight was similar to Haye v Fraudley where the underdog had no chance due to zero power.

Easy pay day last night without breaking sweat but he did prove he was a number of levels above Rees

They've got all the excuses in the world not to make it happen now, principally the fact that as Broner has gone up 2 weight divisions why would he come back down?

It's worked out perfectly for Burns.

    :huh

Audley may lack a lot of things.......power is not one of them.

To be honest Jose Gonzalez looked like a better boxer than Broner. Broners footwork is garbage, so is his work rate. In Pauli's career he just fell short of elite, and that was a past prime version Broner just struggled with.
I dont think its such a huge shock some people would fancy Ricky's chances against that total hype job. Jose Gonzalez's style would also have given Broner nightmares.

Paulie's world class, a 2 weight champ who has fought some of the best.

Who have Ricky and Gonzalez fought?

Before Gonzalez, Ricky had fought nobody you can consider world class, yet because Gonzalez schools him that suddenly makes Gonzalez a brilliant fighter. Doesn't make sense.

Broner landed more cleaner shots, compared to Paulies higher workrate . Paulie hit broners arm quite a lot i though .Broner has quite an awkward stance, and would be a nightmare to fight against i would imagine ...

True, Pauli is world class, but he was never elite. The hype machine makes out Broners the next Mayweather when in reality the guy struggles to beat a past prime PM :verysad

Ricky's not fought a top rated world class fighter yet, but in terms of boxing skill Gonzalez was high end.
Who has Boner fought to deserve the hype he gets? What performance stands out? I think, even in defeat, Pauli showed us Broners level last night.

Gonzalez is clearly a better boxer than Broner, technically. Broner doesnt box, he stalks. Broner would probably beat Gonzalez but he would seriously struggle with that movement and counter punching just like Burns did.

No he didn't clearly win at all. I had Paulie winning. Punch stats were a joke imo.

I scored it the same as the "corrupt" judge (117-111) and I have never met Al Haymon.

My only excuse was that it was late and I was tired :)

Stop making excuses the reason you guys did not take the fight was because you were not confident Ricky Burns could win. When Ajose Olusegun was ordered to fight Lucas Matthyse for the WBC interim title he had 7 weeks notice no excuses.

Paulie displayed heart and courage like he always does and he has a good chin and is tough. He is not just some pretty boy. That said he clearly lost the fight to Broner. The only rounds Paulie won were the ones Broner let him win. How a judge could give Paulie the fight defies reason. His dig at Al Haymon was below the belt. Broner did not look good or as exciting as he promised however he won't be easy to beat either.

Just watched the fight and I usually agree with most people on here but for me there is no way broner deserves any more than a draw. I feel for Paulie and totally agree with what he said after the fight about the way decisions go. Broner just didn't do enough Paulie may have no power but when he threw 4s and 5s a couple were getting through each time even if they had little effect you can't give broner a round for a 5 punch flurry, especially when Paulie was never rocked or hurt

A close fight where one fighter gets the nod, isn't a "robbery".

But the 117-111 was too wide.

I thought Broner just edged it, SD was fair.

Lets calm down on Broner, he's only 23. Jury is still very much out but has plenty time.
