Was Pavlik really 111 degrees four days before the Hopkins fight?

Jeff -- In my opinion BHop's win would be an even greater accomplishment if Kelly was 100%. What if Bernard beat Kelly in a GREAT fight instead of a won sided shellacking? How huge would that be at 43 years of age! I'm with ya on everything else in this post.

Drained as in not suited to the weight. There was certainly a problem if he only put on 2 pounds in the interim between the weight in and fight night.

even if Pavlik was 105 that would be very high for an adult temperature. He would not have fought. These excuses fighter use are ridiculous. Ever since Roberto Duran the excuses get worse and worse. He started the big excuses, and only when he lost to the greats. Somehow he trained for the less qualified fighters who were not as good.

He's trying to convince people that he fought Hopkins with a fever of 111 degrees thinking all people are ******s. The ass whopping Hopkins handed him in the first round alone would have left him stretched out DEAD if he had a fever of 111 degrees.

I think that's bull**** and just trying to desperately save face. You think the fighters don't give blood tests before fights and are tested to being 100% healthy before going in?

Above all, the first excuse they gave was the weight difference and they stuck with it. If he was sick I would assume the first thing they will say even BEFORE getting in the ring is that he's sick.

With the beating he took there's no way in hell a normal human being would still be standing as a sick one all the way to a one-sided 12th and final bell.

"If Hopkins wants to be seen as a legend, like Calzaghe, he needs to step it up against a natural light heavyweight with talent rather than fighting a sickly, blown up middleweight like Pavlik, or a blown up light middleweight in Winky Wright or tall, slender Antonio Tarver. By now taking a fight with Dawson, I think it hurts Hopkins because it seems as if he’s avoiding him."

If Hopkins wants to be considered a legend like Calzaghe?Whoever wrote this **** must be on some shem or something...he calls Calzaghe a legend, but he didn't fight Dawson either

I'm not sure, but he fought like he'd just stepped out a freezer.

I wonder why they didn’t mention it in post fight interview or before the match.

It's amazing to me that some of you guys are freaking out over a typo, and calling Thomas Hausser, who originally broke the news, a liar.

    Agreed.

Pavlik - whose chin isn't exactly cast iron - would have been gone within three or four rounds if were suffering from bronchitis on fight night. He would also have shown signs of coughing and spluttering, which he obviously did not.

Ya, you're right. Thomas Hausser, one of the most respectable journalist in the boxing world, must have lied. I bet Arum paid him for it too.:patsch
