I was a TOUGH guy who was reviled after koing a boxing legend for the first time. Never a champion,I was a dynamite puncher and packed boxing arenas. You either loved me or hated me, but I died a true brave and dead hero. Who am I ?

You kod me in the first round Skull. Yes Bummy Davis was the only man to ko Tony Canzoneri in 160 bouts. The fans booed him for that in 1939.
Davis, a terrific left-hook artist kod 46 out of 65 wins. A real rough, tough character who kod Tippy Larkin and the great Bob Montgomery in the first round. {I saw that bout].He is remembered for his two vicious brawls with the "dainty" Fritzie Zivic. Bummy Davis was shot and killed by 4 holdup men in a bar in 1945. After taking 3 slugs in his body Al Davis flattened 3 of the gunman, but the 4th holdup man shot a bullet in Davis's neck, and mortally wounded, Davis chased the gunman outside, and dropped dead in the street, a true hero. Bummy was one tough guy in the ring, and outside the ring...Cheers.

Funnily enough I was just reading about Davis on Wikipedia the other day so he was the first name to spring to mind.

I knew about his fights with Zivic of course but didn't know he was murdered or in fact he was even Jewish!

A very interesting story and he must have been some puncher to take out Canzoneri (even an old version) and Montgomery in one as well.
