I seen a post a little while ago that asked prime for prime Pernell Whitaker vs Floyd Mayweather JR and it was pretty much a shut out that Pernell. Pernell isn't before my time, but i wasn't into boxing and never took the time to look at old videos. Floyd fans, was Pernell really so good that Floyd doesn't get one vote or was it just haters as usual?
Perhaps one of the best natural fighters I've seen on tape along with the likes of Duran and Napoles.
Whitaker would win a Mayweather matchup about 8-4, yes. He was masterful on the outside and on the inside. One of the most skilled fighters ever.
So Whitaker was a combination puncher. You are one of the few I seen that feels Floyd has a chance. What chances does he have or advantages besides size and power?
I wonder if you will accept it as truth now when people tell you rather than when you see it with your own eyes and create your own view?
Sweat Pea was a phenom.... crazy reflexes and defensive skills that were unmatch. He just lacked power... his style never really allowed for him to really sit down on his punches and when he would...he just wasn't that heavy handed to really cause opponents concern. Which only reinforces just how great Sweat Pea was as a boxer. Fighters had really no concern with his power and would walk through everything to get close enough to land just one shot. The problem was you could be right in front of him for 12 rounds and feel like you were miles apart. he could make you miss 19 shots out of 20.
