Was Philadelphia Jack O Brien a good fighter?

I thought that, guys in the 20s used styles very similar to the ones in the 30s. I find it interesting how he says that era is overrated and crap (dunno how you can say Dempsey and Walker look crap on film) but picks Loughran over Conn.

 

Jack O'brien had wings on his feet, fast hands and a good defense. He couldn't punch hard though and his chin at light heavy / heavyweight was not a good one. So skilled was Jack O'Brien, he could give up 20+ pounds past his prime and still beat or draw with name fighters.

 

They do look like crap. I expected backlash since this is the classic forum, but compared to modern fighters they do look like dog**** amateurs. 1930s is when Joe Louis started.

 

Jack Dempsey does NOT look good on film, certainly! Good for that era, yes, but not good now. Many guys from my gym are better than him.

 

Then explain me why Benny Leonard looks like a crap. Then do the same with Walker, Loughran, Gans, McFarland...

 

Dempsey from Cowboy Luther fight would destroy all of your friends from your gym.

LOL no, Jack Dempsey is crap. Especially in that fight he looks like crap, but that was a late fight it seems in his career. Jack Dempsey is overrated hot-crap. Prime for prime, he couldn't even beat a guy like Ernie Terrell.

 

It was Dempsey over 10 years after his retirement. That crap would destroy all of you in one night.

 

Ahhh yes, the guy who lost to Thad Spencer, Cleveland Williams and Wayne Bethea IN HIS PRIME, and needed a controversial decision to beat George Chuvalo can beat this?

In both of those fights Dempsey threw many punches without setting anything up first, he got away with it because those opponents aren't good.

 

Obviously trolling. No point in feeding into what he wants.
