I am actually in the camp that barely anyone ever would survive the foreman that Ali beat. He thought he was invincible and i don't believe he was far off it personally. After being beaten by Ali the self doubts came in and he looked to improve. The silly thing i i don't think suddenly trying to pace himself actually made him a better fighter, it made him worse. It certainly didn't pay off vs Young and Lyle. He would have been better off simply trying to overwhelm them imo.

There was only one guy in the world who could beat him in his initial style imo and that was Ali.

i'll grant that great pacing and better punching technique helped him second career but he really didn't have a choice at this age.

I wouldn't back more than 3 heavyweights in history to beat the Foreman that entered the ring against Norton and Ali, if that.

If Foreman II is underrated it can only be because we cannot combine the first carnation of Foreman with the bald version to create a guy who did not exist.

The greeness of George first time around was not quite overcome before he quit boxing after the young fight. The more measured comeback George may have been less green but was not an improvement. How could he have been? If he made up for what he lacked first time he also lacked some of what made him great first time.

In many ways George was severely limited second time against the relevant fighters and why he never fought much of them. The first George could fight anybody. The second George you had to be extremely selective with who he fought.

What is most underrated about George is his matchmaking.
