many of those early opponents where well chosen for him to roll them over and get the hype going and as someone has stated he didn't have a devastating one punch power, but rather a speedy combination

without any question the hardest heavyweight puncher was george foreman he stopped chuvalo which says it all

Almost ,but I give it to Foreman..I remember Holmes saying after being kOed by Tyson that he fought harder punchers before but Tyson was the most accurate.

I think hardest puncher goes to George Foreman.

tyson had 1 punch ko power, but in terms of single shot power, he may have not been the greatest. Lets remember tyson wasn't a huge heavyweight, he was small and compact.

His 'power' really came from speed, leverage, combination punching and the angles in which he threw his punches. He hit guys from different angles where they couldn't see, stunned them and took them out.

He was definitely the most explosive heavyweight puncher ever.

I wouldn't want to get hit by any of them.

No he wasn't. There's a good book called 'facing tyson' where some of his opponents answer that very question, some say he was the hardest puncher they ever faced, others say he wasn't. I think it was Bonecrusher Smith said Bruno hit harder than Tyson but the difference was the sharpness of the punches, the timing and that you often couldn't see them coming. Speed in other words.
Shavers and Foreman definitely were bigger punchers.

Nope, but I'd say he's the most accurate power puncher except for maybe Louis.

I think he was, most of his punches were thrown with bad intentions, with excellent timing when jumping the opponents. Arguably there is harder flat footed punchers like Wlad, Vitaly, Foremann, Briggs to name some.

holmes can say what he likes . the fact of the matter is tyson was one of the hardest punchers in history . if you look at his exhibition fight where tyson was fat and out of shape tyson still packed tremendous power in his punch he floored t rex sanders who has a pretty good chin and and had to hold him up many times when he hit him . Also when tyson was in his prime his punches on impact sounded like no other heavyweight . hbo use to comment on this all the time . Also despite a shot tyson not being able to knock out williams or mcbride they did say tyson had power like no other .

tyson couldnt get a decent shot at smith because smith was hugging him so much . if tyson hit smith with full power smith would be on his ass.

Tyson hit you with combos in this prime...he hit very hard but with 1 punch he wasn't the hardest hitter in history...i'd say Lennox hit harder with 1 shot...Foreman, Shavers, Liston all hit harder...

Tyson was the best puncher the division has ever seen but I don't think I'd call him the hardest.

Single punch power? No, lots of people hit harder than Tyson with a single shot....but the point is that they didn't follow it up like prime Tyson did. He's certainly the most devastating puncher at HW I've ever seen but I've seen a fair few fighters that pack more power into a single shot. At his peak though I'd pick Tyson to beat pretty much anyone that ever laced them up, he was a magnificent fighter for about 2-3 years.

No. He was quick and all, but a bigger man and get more force behind a blow purely on the merit of their size and weight.
