Hearns? Isn't that the guy who got knocked senseless by Iran Barkley, who then lost to a 37 year old Duran...

Yeah Hearns the same one who knocked Duran face first on June 15, 1984. The guy who beat Benitezin late 1982- who was the same guy who beat Duran easily in January of 1982.

The same guy who was KOd in 2 by Davey Moore who was torn to schreds by Roberto Duran. Who also easily kicked Ray Leonards ass who easily beat and stopped BENITEZ

6 voted he wasn't elite. I love this site, and seen many poll results. This might be the worst I've seen. Shows how many clowns we have lurking around here.

Duran did well against the non-elites. It was when the other guy was elite which Duran had to muster up an excuse for the loss.

Duran was about 75 fights and 15 years into his career when he was fighting those guys. Remind me what Hearns, Benitez and Leonard were doing at the same point in their careers?

What about what Chavez was doing at the time he had 75 fights. Knocking out Taylor and Mayweather and winning his 3rd title. Having a lot of tuneup fights is nice, but that does not make him washed up. Duran fought until 119 fights and 34 year career. He had a lot of tuneup fights like said, and if you look at his title fight record he had less title fights than Holmes or Chavez. His lightweight reign was rather mediocre guys.. Duran had 22 title fights total.. Hearns had 19. Putting it in perspective. That would have helped him having experience at that point in his career and fighting so many years later, he was not washed up. Another poor excuse. He loved to fight. He just had a ceiling.

after 75 fights I think Chavez beat Camacho,Haugen, drew with Whitaker .Split fights with Randall And the fact Duran gets credit for beating Moore and Barkley in 2 different weights, shows that even his fans do not think he was washed up. He gets credit for the wins but excuses for the losses.

Best fighter I've ever seen on film. Watching him at LW is arguably the best fighter of all time for me also.

Today I have learned that he was only good against guy who fought his fight and not against "elite" opponents.

And 40% of folks on this board seem to agree with that sentiment.
