Huge right hand puncher, extremely aggressive, durable. However void of boxing “science”. Rocky could be easily outboxed ..just don’t get nailed by him.
I thought that was obvious. He was also a huge guy when draining to Welter. Very powerful and physically imposing. Not scientific though.
Big puncher, but most of his name victims are welters and junior middles caught Zale at the right time.
Graziano was the most feared man in the history of the middleweight division. Burley, Holman Williams, Jimmy Edgar and LaMotta all ducked him. No matter what Rocky did he couldn't get those guys to get in the ring with him. One time Graziano went to LaMotta's house and Jake wouldn't come outside and eventually Rock got so frustrated he punched a tree and broke his hand. The tree didn't make it though.
Robinson called Graziano the most dangerous man he ever fought He's an ATG middleweight and p4p puncher. Incredible right hand, stalked like a tiger.
He doesn't make my top 35. Among some of the guys he somehow never met are Burley Basora Williams Cocoa Kid Lamotta Chase Wade Cerdan Dauthille Raadik Villemain Dellanoit Hostak Belloise Abrams Sands
I think you will find he was being sarcastic. Graziano didn't want to fight Jake, but Jake wanted to fight him. Graziano 's nick name for Jake was "policeman" meaning he fought the guys Rocky gave a miss to,Source "Raging Bull "by Jake Lamotta and a taped interview in the book" In This Corner" by Pete Heller.
During the middle 1940s, both Jake LaMotta and Sugar Ray Robinson would have loved to get into the ring with Rocky Graziano. While Graziano was a terrific puncher and a capable fighter, he would not have been able to match up well with many of the top welterweights and middleweights of the time, notably LaMotta and Robinson. Yes, Graziano was able to score a knockdown in a bout with Robinson during the early 1950s, but that bout wasn't that competitive. Moreover, Graziano fought Robinson in a world middleweight title bout when Robinson was the reigning titleholder. It is doubtful that Graziano, as a reigning world middleweight champion, would have risked defending his title in a bout with Robinson or LaMotta at any time. - Chuck Johnston
