JUL 98 Boxing Monthly Ratings 175lbs/12st 7lbs 1: Roy Jones, 36-1, WBC champ 2: D. Michalczewski (Ger.), 37-0, WBO champ 3: Reggie Johnson*, 38-5-1, IBF champ 4: Graciano Rocchigiani* (Germany), 40-4-1 5: Montell Griffin, 32-1 6: Lou Del Valle*, 27-1, WBA champ 7: Virgil Hill, 43-3 8: Michael Nunn*, 52-4 9: Ole Klemetsen (Norway), 33-3 10: Richard Hall*, 32-1 With that in mind, whos to say Michalczewski wasnt the man, as he had beaten Hill when he was the man and on this rating Dariusz ended up having 6 winning fights against names on this top 10 compared to Jones going 5-1 from this list. Remember Dariusz beat the WBA IBF WBO & wrongly stripped WBC champ and beat the man at the time to should have been Ring champ
Im no hater of Jones, but look at the facts. Jones never tested himself against the top man of the divisions he won world titles in. Thats not hating, that is fact Facts arent picking on people, they are facts, live with them
The conclussion and, end of thread. Forgetting that Jones had history with a banned substance. Jones had talent, but was never matched against any of the top men, in the divisions he fought in. Jones was never the main man in any weight division he won world titles in, between winning the IBF MW world title to beating Ruiz. This will be hard for some of his hardcore fans to accept. On a positive note Jones did have a claim to being the man at LHW when he came back from HW and beat Tarver, but that is another thread and open for debate. Thanks to all that participated
outstanding thread. all rojo's mauled and brutally dismantled by irrefutable scientific facts from irrepressible team elite strategical director bailey live on esb in front of a global audience of millions :deal the best way to define this thread is 'one sided beatdown' :vonnecunt
Thankyou for the credit, I will probably use this thread for part of the Team Elite lectures that will be taking place early next week. The moral of the thread is, look at all of the facts, as things arent what they seem. We now know the fighter of the decade avoided the best of all of the divisions he won world titles in and was never the main man in any of them. :rasta
He may well have been the best, but didnt beat the recognised best except for perhaps Toney at SMW who wasnt as good Eubank and Benn and didnt have a SMW resume equal to theirs. I think Jones could have been the #1 MW but he didnt prove it there or in any of the divisions he was in.
after '94 this is how the list should have been at SMW 1. Chris Eubank 2. Roy Jones 3. James Toney 4. Nigel Benn Some put Jones at number one because of all Toney's great work at Middleweight and was undefeated, which was perfectly fair.
****, every time i wanted tear into a post you put out something like this that makes sense. it's not the roy bashing i expect but i think he did establish (as you alluded to) his supremacy at SMW. Toney was at the top of the p4p list and recognized as the most talented and one of the best at 168 when jones destroyed him. i agree: he NEEDED to beat eubank and benn to prove he was the best. he was, the toney win established it, but eubank and benn (benn especially) were needed for him to clean out the division. DM was the only competition at 175 and he frankly did nothing in the least to challenge roy's claim to the top spot. but talent alone doesn't win fights: you have to fight them in the ring and roy should have done that.
