    i agree but don't be fooled: a lot of it is **** taking to gently remind us that jones never techinically filled a lineage until 175 (and even then, DM might have had it). It's almost irrelevant in the long term and the tide is changing back to acknowledge roy jones as an all time great (****, even the classic is putting less resistance into that notion)

    That pretty much covers everything that needs to be covered. Why the **** people give DM so much credit for clinging to a WBO strap and sitting in Germany shitting himself at the thought of fighting Jones is beyond me...same goes for Slappy Joe, another WBO bum.

    The Jones fans will have the last laugh, he'll be remembered as the true ATG that he was because of the fighters he beat, not because of some lineal/paper champ crap when he was clearly the best in the division at 160/168 and 175 when he fought at that weight.

    Agreed that he was a paper champ at HW but when you have to resort to that accusation to discredit a former middleweight then you know that the hating goggles are on :lol:

    I guess that makes VITLAY a 'paper champion' too at HW :think

    The thread has officially closed but if you have some facts to add, please do.
    Here I have taken some various posts I did for you to read. Sorry if it repeats a bit I just copied various parts


    As noted Michalczewski should have been Ring champ, made over 20 defences of his title and won the WBA & IBF titles before Jones. He also beat the fighter Jones wouldnt face.
    I dont think there is much in Jones and Michalczewskis LHW resumes

    Michalczewski beat the man to be the man.

    I never rated Hatton but he beat Tsyzu to be called the man. I think Maywheather at LWW and was a far superior fighter to Hatton at LWW and would have beaten Hatton but Hatton had right to be called the man as he beat the man. Possibly Hattons biggest (possibly) was Castillo who Maywheather had 2 decisions over already but Hatton beat the man.

    Same with Michalczewski at LHW. Some people may have rated Jones higher but....

    With that in mind, whos to say Michalczewski wasnt the man, as he had beaten Hill when he was the man and on this rating Dariusz ended up having 6 winning fights against names on this top 10 compared to Jones going 5-1 from this list. Remember Dariusz beat the WBA IBF WBO & wrongly stripped WBC champ and beat the man at the time to should have been Ring champ

    I don't know. I've just seen Roy pound a helluva lot of guys to the mat and make their faces look like Jason Vorhees had at them. That's what I'm basing my opinion on.

    Sure, but none of those guys were the top man in the division he was fighting in. Toney its debateable but Toneys big SMW victory was a fighter Benn had blown out in a round over 2 years previous and both Benn and Eubank had better SMW resumes than Toney
