Was seeing RJJ lose to Calzaghe more painful than his KO loss to Johnson?

Methinks that RJJ should have quit after his second KO loss. What was the point of fighting Joe Calzaghe as he was far beyond his prime. Just sad to see.

It was when Joe was mocking and showboating with him when you know he would never have pulled that in Jones prime.
It was painful when people started to question his talent and chin.
For years he dominated the sport. He beat everything put in front of him.
If he had a bad chin it would have been a factor in his prime.

Its just that in his prime Joe doesn't last the distance.
Roy who was totally shot to bits went the distance with Joe.
And I believe Roy even dropped Joe in that fight.

I think the Johnson fight was a little tougher due to expectations, and the way it ended. Roy was knocked unconscious in a fight he was expected to win. Not stumbling on his feet like a few months earlier versus Tarver, but on the canvas out cold.

I think we still had a little higher expectations of Roy when he fought Johnson than when he fought Calzaghe. I know I did. We knew he was aging and had slipped some, but he still gutted out a close win in the first Tarver fight. And the 2nd fight, Tarver just hit him with a perfectly timed left hand. But against Glen, he just looked terrible. He actually ended up looking better physically a year later in the rubber match with Tarver, but was afraid to take risks and looked to survive.

His legs and sharpness were totally lacking against Johnson. He went from one of his best wins a year and a half earlier (Ruiz) to just looking shot.

I knew Roy’s chances were slim against Calzaghe.

In some ways, the third Tarver fight was the most disappointing because Roy looked considerably better physically than he had against Glen, and Tarver looked pretty bad actually. The fight was fought at a snail’s pace and Tarver still looked exhausted late in the fight. It seemed like it could have been a winnable fight for Roy, but mentally he was too scarred from his prior 2 fights

    Not for me.
By the time he fought Calzaghe I had no hope left for Jones.
The most painful fight for me was the third Tarver fight. I expected Jones to come but and slay his demons but he fought scared instead. It signalled the end of a great champion.
Against Calzaghe you knew he was already shot

That was obnoxious- Joe had to have known Jones would’ve clocked him in his prime but all he was ****in doing was was showboating so casuals all around the would think he was great- Biggest tosser who acted so arrogant about his thin career full of old men.

The Johnson fight was legitimately disturbing. Calzaghe was just a bit embarrassing. Watching Johnson live was genuinely distressing, you thought he might be kilt.

It's sad when a great goes on too long, sure, but most of them do, I didn't find it more upsetting with Roy than with Tyson and at least there was some cool stuff like his running into Richie Woodhall and becoming a Russian citizen

I gotta be honest I was hoping that Tyson was gonna knock Jones out cold in their exhibition fight but seeing Jones looking as old as sin up there, it made me think back on just how great he was in his prime and how far from his prime he was in the Calzaghe and Johnson fights. In the end I’m glad the Tyson fight was rigged and it was a draw.

When Glen Johnson knocked out Roy Jones, I was genuinely worried that I had just seen Jones killed on live TV!

When he came to, I assumed that he would retire.

No because it was obvious Roy was shot long before the Calzaghe fight

Conversely, It was shocking to see Roy knocked out cold by the journeyman Johnson it showed that the wipeout loss to Tarver was not a fluke and that Roy had indeed crossed the point of no return.
