If you go back to that time those same people crying about Kovalev being passed his best against Ward picked Kovalev to knock him out. Why in the hell would you pick against ward if you thought one of the best fighters of the era Ward was prime and Kovalev was past his best? It makes no sense and is nothing but an attempt to discredit Ward and make excuses for kovalev and I see right through it.

They weren't on equal levels. Ward saying his body is breaking down and retiring on top and Kov actually looking worse every fight are two different things.
I'll give you credit, you did make me think some with this post though

How's things in Houston treating you? Wife and I are considering a visit for Thanksgiving. At least then I won't melt!

Ward's retirement before Kov does NOT prove Kov had more in the tank. You understand many guys overstay their welcome in boxing. He was only 33 which is a fairly young age for a defensive minded boxer and had a relatively low number of career fights while not absorbing much punishment. He went on record saying he was 100% going into the Kovalev rematch after having his right shoulder operated on and his right hand NEVER looked as good before. Point out any footage where it looks like he's lost a step... As for the PEDs anybody who knows what to look for can clearly see the signs of AAS use (blown up neck and traps, severe backne etc). You would acknowledge it too but we both know why you won't. Kovalev kept fighting for the same reason most older fighters soldier on, because he didn't earn enough money to retire. He made a pittance for most of his career and got screwed by his promoter not even getting a guaranteed purse for the Ward rematch ffs.

I was telling you all for a long time before he fought Ward that I'd noticed changes in Kovalev that I wasn't happy about. I've been saying the same about Usyk and you can easily go back and watch footage of the younger version, even pre-pro, and you'll see a stark contrast in speed, reaction times, sharpness, fluidity, and even his head movement used to be better.

Kovalev was still very good when he was robbed against Ward, especially in the first fight, but not The Krusher of old and like I said even Ward admitted as much in a rare moment of honesty.

Regarding Ward retiring due to is ''body breaking down'' at the age of 33. Either he knew he couldn't legitimately beat Beterbiev, Bivol and Gvozdyk and that his obligatory home judges and refs would not be able to get away with robbing any of them or more than one of them like they did Kovalev x 2 and if they did pull that **** again his reputation would rightfully be in tatters, or his body genuinely was breaking down which just so happened to conveniently coincide with the division being on absolute fire.

If it's the later, many of the same people who believe or argue that will also have you believe that Loma was smack bang in the midst of his prime at the same age and even when he was 35 y/o despite the fact that obviously he's much smaller than Ward, took up boxing aged 4 compared to Ward doing so at the age of 9 IIRC, and Loma had over 280 more amateur fights than him and he had become very injury prone in his 30s, including having to undergo two shoulder surgeries not one, and fighting with a style which is obviously going to be more affected by age

Yeah, that's why Ward fought him. There was that fight in Russia where Kov didn't look so great, got a KD but faded. Ward thought he'd lost something, so wanted the fight.

This is how these boxers operate, particularly defensive ones, they pretend to be warriors but actually they're opportunists. So many times we see them waiting for the fighter to slip before making the fight. This was one of those times. Obviously Canelo preyed on Kovalev after he'd slipped much more.

Yep Eubank jr makes sure they seem totally shot. He's got a shot Abraham and shot Degale as his best wins. Now he's got his eyes set on an ancient GGG. I would love to see a hungry GGG come and take Eubank out.

Hot as hell been one of the hottest summers on record here it sucks. We're finally getting some rain today. Hopefully by the time you get here we'll be nice and cooled off.
