Only time will tell... If his goal in boxing was to establish the best resume he possibly could, then probably not. If his goal in boxing was to make the most money he possibly could, then probably.
I'm no fan of Haymon, but your premise is completely off. Quillin's alliance with Haymon is why we know who he is. He was featured early on in his career on HBO, and then Showtime precisely because he's with Haymon. He may be a joke to most fight fans, but he does have his sycophants and is paid handsomely to practice his trade. Quillin was actually one of Haymon's original fighters, well before he began expanding his stable.
I dunno, he's along way off from hitting that $1.4mil guarantee he had for fighting Korobov, which didn't happen. I think Quillin is going nowhere fast.
Since Haymon wants no part of the sanctioning bodies, it isn't out of the question that Quillin didn't really want/need to make weight, knowing a PBC title is on the horizon if he wins. One thing I despise about the PBC is how they make up weight classes and champions as they go. The whole thing comes down to convenience. They'll tout Wilder as the HW Champion because of the WBC belt, but not even allow Thurman to display his WBA belt. PBC Lineal 143 LB champion: Garcia/Peterson PBC 161 LB Champion: Lee/Quillin
Of course it is, I mean with titans like Lukas Konecny and Fernando Guerrero amongst his 3 title defenses, how couldn't it be
Not at all, quillin probably looses to the top middles. Haymon allows quillin to have some good pay days at the same time staying away from getting decapitated by GGG.
