He beat Arreola when Arreola was still rated. But Arreola was already past it, and had been exposed as limited, and was never that good anyway either. No one had really heard of, nor cared about, Stiverne until Vitali went on his retirement. Stiverne was already 34 or 35 years old before he even became a blip on the radar then.
He beat: * David Price (amateurs)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHelbbjaB3k * Robert Helenius (amateurs) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kn-IOgR3V6k * Chris Arreola - floored and decisioned him * Chris Arreola twice - floored and stopped him He was fine. Yes, a top-10 fighter. A great champion, no. One of the worst, actually. Terribly mismanaged career.
His wins over Arreola were impressive and winning the a title would see most fighters automatically break the top 10 but how good he really is, is still up for debate. A fighters standing should be judged upon more than a showing against a single opponent, especially against a fighter who was always overrated like Arreola. I think Stiverne is at the level where he is dangerous and can beat some rated guys when fit but then look very poor against certain styles and he's inconsistent due to his lack of discipline. I don't think he's top 10 based on recent showings, but he is top 20 or there about depending upon his condition.
Yes, he is top ten HW just now. He has one punch power and very good chin. Unfortunately, he is always out on shape.
he is competent at least. but beating Nippleman Chris means nothing, that tub of lard was nothing in the first place.
