Yup.Everytime I heard a Leonard excusemaker say that he fought "Duran's fight" as the reason he lost to Duran,I puke. The style he used against Duran in the 1st is the same that he was able to come from behind against Tommy Hearns.Pathetic.

I saw someone on this thread make reference to Ray's "feather fisted amatuer style." THAT is ****ing FUNNY!! As an amatuer Leonard knocked people down and knocked people the **** out like few other amatuers ever did!

100%+ correct mate:yep The major majority of the wankers on here know absolutly **** all about Leonard & his style of fighting & all their **** is just garnered from old Ring/KO/Boxing IIlustrateds & agreeing with other pricks that yapped in first & it's not the american way to be seen as having an opinion based on an individual thought & fact:lol:

Bunch of ****in wankers!!! Leonards said it time & time again that he fought the right fight in Montreal & so did Dundee as leonard said in the fact that too run from Duran would be suicide, you must never let Duran get momentum so it's best to step into him tie him up & go for the late round stoppage being that i was younger/faster/stronger/fresher & bigger than Duran & it was Dundee that came out with all that **** about fighting the wrong fight as a damage limitation exercise for the **** sucking fawning leonard loving media of the day.

That leonard performance in New Orleans was alien too him & the press castigated him for his reticence & timidity to even make decent fight of it. As you said leonard has always fought the way he fought Duarn in Montreal & Hearns 1 & he could'nt cut it above 147 hence his ****ed off on the bogus retirement/comeback/retirement/comback maybe maybe.

I challenge any of the leonard excuse making mugs on here to show me one ****in fight that Leonard fought any diff in his carrear that did'nt mirror Benitez, Duran & Hearns, Leonard was a box/fighter who used speed of hand/combo as his defence, he never ran/moved in his life except for New Orleans & that being he did'nt want his arse handed to him again by Duran.

Leonards all smoke & mirrors, he could'nt cut it above 147, got given a gift against Kalule when he was starting to gas & the crowd roaring Kalule onwards as he started to whack Leonard in return. The Howard fight in 84 showed Leonard was finished as a top end fighter period & Leonard would have proberbly lost too Don Curry who was the next WW up & comer as Leonards reflexes slowed which were his main defence & Kevin Howard exposed that & got robbed into the process.

This is the perfect post on this subject and most importantly 100% correct.I was born in 61 and Leonard is the best welterweight I've seen in my lifetime,as well as one of the best p4p fighters I've ever seen.Speed, reflexes, power, chin and (most importantly)intelligence,he had it all. However, his ****ing ENORMOUS and UNCONTROLLABLE ego, ability to manipulate the system to the max and,as well as self-serving attitude, exposed his absolute ****iness. He was well aware that he was the goose that laid the golden egg, which is why everyone wanted to fight him,and why he took complete advantage of it.When he was knocked the **** out by light-hitting former JUNIORLIGHTWEIGHT Hector Camacho,I just laughed my ****ing ass off,as his supporters just made a whole bunch of excuses for him, that they would not have made for Leonard's perfectly timewise chosen opponents.**** that phony cocksucker.

Here's when the press & media finally woke up to the fact that they'd all been taken f mugs by Leonard after the 3rd Duran fight in 89 when he promised the whole world that he was going to toe 2 toe with a fat old Duran & KO him as New Orleans had to be concluded that he was better than Duran & only a KO would do. But he ran around the ring for 11 rounds with the crown chanting BULL****!!! BULL****!!! as if Leonard cared as he fled into the desert night with another $10MILLION+ He was finished in vegas after that act of robbery, no casino would touch him & when he went in against Norris at MSG only about 5,000 paying fans showed up.

Boxing Monthly 1990...Is Leonard making a fool out of Boxing!

Burt Sugar called him "The ego maniacs egomaniac"

Smart clever sly **** of a man really, **** all nice about him, i would'nt buy a new car never mind a 2nd hand one from the snake.

He's the sort of ****er that you'd want as commander in chief of the army,

    Hagler as Marine general.

    Hearns, special forces.

    Duran as torturer in Chief:lol:

He was a fantastic fighter that reeked of charisma and knew exactly how to manipulate everyone from the fans and the media to talk show hosts and "celebrities" while he was beating his wife and snorting coke as well as BLATANTLY ducking Marvin Hagler. His excuse makers blamed(actually still, considering some of the comments on these boards)his detached retina situation(while he was demanding that boxing change its own rules and institute thumbless gloves to suit HIM) for the reason that he ducked Hagler even though he fought MANY times afterwards, including his demand(and subsequent success upon demand) that useless "champion" Donny LeLonde weight drain himself(and kowtow to god Leonard's demands)to fight for titles in 2 weight classes. What a mother****ing joke.

This is the hypocracy of the yanks when it comes to the $$$$ & Leonard new it & jeezus did'nt he screw it big time. In Boxing News Oct 17th they had an interview with Donny Lalonde & he said that Leonard only gave him the fight if he had a PRIVATE agreement that if he had to come in under the contracted weight by 3 LBs or so & he'd be fined $1MILLION for every Lb over the PRIVATE agreement. He did the same to Duran in 89 when the contracted weight set by leonard was 163LB but Duran came in at 158.5 as he was as paranoid as **** about getting $$$$ raped by Leonard & that secret agreement was for 160LB....& i should now as i was in the Media room at the Mirage when it came out, but no one gave a **** as Leonard meant $$$$$$$$ & he swanned around like the queen of sheba the dirty ****in manipulative ******* of a man.

He could'nt stay away from ringside, he haunted it in his phony retirements, his jealousy & ego always had to be there to upstage any fighter on the night & give that aw shucks wink. That why camacho enjoyed beating the crap out of leonard as Leonard had critised Hector years before in about 82/83, hector leant over the ropes & challenged leonard anywhere, anytime for direspecting him, he was always giving back handed snide digs when acting as color commentater against anyone that looked like they'd replace him as the face of boxing, he had to upstage every live event. I was born in 56 so like you we both remember him well from the olympics & what the press really said back then unlike some of these wet wanks on here who kno ****-all about the **** in reality.
