The change was that he fought a guy who could change his style and use his speed and legs to win a rematch. Duran did not anticipate this. If he was not in shape in the rematch, Ray could have beaten him by fighting Duran's fight probably, so why did Ray have to fight on his toes in the rematch. Ray changed regardless of if Duran was in shape or not. Compare the first fight with the rematch. Watch Ray's feet. It is amazing. And I think Duran had to move up. Duran had no choice but to go up in weight. He fought at 154 as early as 1978. If I recall he used to fight many nontitle bouts above the lightweight limit. The excuses for Duran were always there, but it is clear he could not make 135 easily anymore and he grew into the welt and later 154 division. I do think 160 was a little high for him, but at welt and jr. middleweight were Leonard,Benitez and Hearns. Excuse or not, those were hard guys to beat.

thank you. Not many guys will say this in regards to Duran. But I do think he was great. It is the excuses for him which I answer. Or that he was 1-10, or the other thread where they ask if he was as great as Ali.

dismiss what powerpuncher said. that's what u call HYPE

thee real answer is no, he wasnt that good.

Trust me, Floyd is much better. Look at how he maintains his excellence at an age Leonard was totally embarassed by the speed of Norris

Leonard did nothing but make excuses to get out of fights with pryor, Hagler, rematch with Hearns. Instead o f simply accepting them, he dictated that Pryor could only make 500K, told Hearns he wouldnt give him a rematch until he admitted he couldnt continue their first fight, and gave Hagler an excuse about an eye injury until 5 years later, when Hagler was a lifeless husk

i'll tell u who was that god: Roy Jones.

u like real boxing, watch Roy Jones during the prime years. everything u want is right there

Maywaether would do to Leonard what Norris did.

Leonard does not fare well agianst boxers who can duck and use lateral movement, another reason why he would not fight Micheal Nunn

Side note: watch the Norris fight to see how this is done. Terry uses a combination of speed, smartz, blazing hand speed, along with defense, to keep Sugar off blance & near defenseless en route to a 121-106 points win. This is how one boxer deals another boxer a devestating defeat. it was very similar to Hector Camacho and his bout with Howard Davis

that's hype they like to use to embellish his accomplishments. Ray just used it to stay away from hagler until the opposition softened him up. Then, once Leonard & Angelo saw Hagler was prime for the taking, they took dead aim for him, and in his next fight, disgarded the thumbless gloves

it's like the injury never happened!

that is a very astute assessment FF

Look what happened the time he faced norris. he was nowhere near ready.

i'm not picking on the poor guy but there simply weren't enough fights.

So long as youre active, you don't fight Kevin Howard, you fight Marvin Hagler

You dont repeat against Duran, you fight Micheal Nunn (top 5 wins my ass!)

I hate to say it but Duran was a pretend titleholder at the time Mike was champ

where's the fights with Pryor? Fights with Curry? Prime Hagler? this guy really missed the BOAT!

Norris? HELLO! at an age Mayweather is till going strong, Ray gets slapped around by Norris. he couldnt fight a lick

Mayweather is everything Leonard wishes he could be

You mite be rite mag but its not proof that ray wasn't prime. It just as plausible to suggest that it was down to his fighters ego. Being the WW champ it was perfectly resonable for him to belive that he could out fight the LW champ. Ray made his adjustments, fought his fight and won only 6 months later. Are you saying he went from green to prime in the space of 6 months?

yeah, how to do go from green to prime in 6 months

I say Duran wasn't properly conditioned. That had a huge impact on the outcome

Regarding RJJ , SRL & FMJ , i m not sure about how i would rank them .
I guess that would currently b RJJ > SRL > FMJ , but close between RJJ & SRL .
all of them r nearly completely unproven .
It is not about # of fights .
I do consider Sanchez gr8 4 what he actually achieved , it is more about de # of quality fights ((quality) per4mances 2b exact) against opponents that mattered during de time in which they mattered .

If you give more weighting to a fighters big wins when ranking him as a great (as I do), then Leonard HAS to be ranked higher than Jones and Mayweather, he has to! I mean even head to head im picking him to beat Mayweather.

    Top 5 atg.
