Was Tarver really a 3-1 favourite against Hopkins?

I remember this fight! I picked Hopkins By close UD! But it was more like hope And I was rooting like crazy in fight night for him! The best thing was when ko KD Tarver!

Any way I'm no longer Hopkins fan after Calzaghe racist comets!

Yes, I made good money betting Hopkins against Tarver, Wright, and now Pavlik. He gets rated the underdog to a laughable extent. Makes for easy money.

Yes, it was crazy. And ridiculous. But oddsmakers and boxing writers seem to make their choices in the dark, lemming style, for the most part. They are never to be trusted. Or believed.

This was one of my best picks, I kind of think it makes up for the time I backed Michael Grant to beat Lennox Lewis.

Tarver had initially been only about a 2-1 favorite, but for some reason the odds went up the day of the fight.

I remember because a friend of mine placed a bet with his bookmaker thinking he was getting less than 2-1 odds for Tarver, not realizing the odds had gone up, and he chose to keep the bet in anyway. I think he lost a small fortune.

I think what turned a lot of people against Hopkins was seeing his high weight for the fight. Coming in at 175 was kinda surprising to a lot of people; I personally expected he would come in somewhere between 168-170.

I think that was a result of a lot of "mainstream" boxing fans not really knowing who Winky was. I personally thought Winky would whup his ass just like he did.

What really puzzles me is that Winky was considered a slight favorite going into his fight with Hopkins. That didn't make sense to me at all. Hopkins was older in years, yes, but was the much bigger man and was coming off the much bigger and more impressive win, over Tarver (as opposed to Winky's win over an ancient Quartey). It's not as if Hopkins was considered washed up at all, in fact Winky had arguably slowed down even more than Hops. I've always liked Winky too, but even I couldn't understand that.

No doubt about it. That he was such a big underdog vs. Pavlik was absurd IMO.

Even against Tito, I thought the odds against him were too big.

The talk about Pavlik knocking Hopkins out in the midrounds and retiring him actually had me laughing aloud in the leadup to the fight. Made for some good entertainment. It just made the win that much more rewarding.

Easy money. Almost as easy as the money I made off Hopkins/Trinidad.
