Was Tarver's KO punch over RJJ a lucky punch or a good counter?

I think it is ucky if you manage to land a shot that knocks somebody the **** out if you have your eyes shut before you throw it, or at least it has a big element of luck.

Absolutely true about RJJ. RJJ made a living countering and not even looking where he's throwing. How many times did we see RJJ dodge a right jab by doing his quick head movement to the right and come back over the jab with a left counter with his head still turned to the right? A million times.

Maybe, but in this case, like Puma said, I think Tarver was planning on throwing that counter. Roy was open for that same counter several times in the first fight.

Take a look at the KO again. RJJ actually lands his own counter just as he was being hit. Difference is that RJJ was going backwards which means he had nothing on his punch while Tarver planted and was coming forward when he caught RJJ. Also, i think Tarver was looking up when he caught RJJ. He was just ducking RJJ's punch and he looked back up when he threw.

Also, if you watch the 2nd round, you see that Tarver just missed RJJ with his left hand. And i think RJJ noticed this. Tarver just gave RJJ problems style wise.

It doesnt matter because they fought for the 3rd time and Tarver won on points proving that he was superior to THAT version of Roy.

BOTH IMO.....but thats a punch that Tarver will never land again..RJJ let his EGO get the best of him as with the Glen Johnson fight:D

Tarver is overated and will only be remembered for "one punch" in his career while RJJ will be remembered for >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Shane Mosley closes his eyes when he punches. Were all of his shots lucky?

It doesnt matter, its not Tarvers fault. They fought 3 times and Tarver proved superior to That version of Jones, now prime Jones is another matter.
