I see Chavez fans said it wasn't primarily because their guy won.

I don't even know much about the two fighters as I'm a heavyweight guy mostly.

But from what I saw, Steele didn't give the guy a chance to respond , also he seemed extremly stressed about ending the fight.

It was only stopped prematurely related to how close it was to the end of the fight. From a straight stoppage point of view, Taylor was a mess when the fight ended and the stoppage was ok.

One more thing, threads with these subjects should probably be in the classic section.

I felt it was a bit too "modern" to be classic, my bad

He stopped it with 2 seconds left i believe, that was a bad call from Steele because the blinking light was on in the corner signaling there was 10 seconds left in the round, and in the case the fight. Taylor would have been the first guy to beat Chavez had it not been waved off.

I think it was a bad stoppage, regardless of how much time there was in the round.

If it was a Tuesday night 8 rounder in a high school gym then sure, stop it. But this was an ultra high stakes fight between two dedicated, experienced, career fighters. Also his opponent was an aging 140lbs guy, there is less danger of instantaneous damage from one more punch.

Richard was in a no-win situation. Had he not stopped the fight he might have faced the wrath of Chavez's supporters who would claim that he should have stopped it but since Taylor is Black, he was giving him an undue chance of winning it. But he stopped it, and he got backlash from Taylor and non-Taylor supporters for stopping it too soon.

I dont know if he stopped it too soon or if he knew Taylor was ahead on the cards or anything else. But what i know is Taylor gave a slight nod that he wanted to continue. Which doesn't exactly say that he was in condition to. On the other hand, was 2 seconds enough for Chavez to land one more punch?

I dont know. But I do know that where you should act with caution, you should act with caution,,,,,

The time left doesn't matter. You have to treat the stoppage like any other stoppage, regardless of how much time is left on the clock. Steel didn't know how much time was left on the clock anyway.

The question I ask in this situation is this. If there were 2 minutes left on the clock, would it be a good stoppage? I believe it was a good stoppage given the condition Taylor was in.

This is more of an emotional argument but Richard Steele stopped a fight when no thought anything was wrong. Only for the fighter to pass out and Steele saved him from falling to the canvas. This fighter just so happens to be my favorite fighter of all time. So I personally trust his judgement on this call. He knows what to look for. He's also the ref, not the timekeeper. Even if you do think that the call was unfair. I think it was more likely that it was simply a mistake, rather than an intentional miscall done out of greed.

Edit: The fight I'm referring to is Sahaprom vs Tatsuyoshi 2. I was gonna post it but apparently all versions of the full fight have been deleted. I don't understand why this always happens to historically important fights of lower weight classes (like 126 and below) but whatever.

From what I understand anything the year 2000 to present day is for general forum. While everything else is classic.

Actually, I don't know the guidelines or anything like that. I was just told by guys higher up on the food chain that posts in this forum should usually include at least one active fighter or someone who has called it quits relatively recently.

“ARE YOU OK? ARE YOU OK?” We are still waiting for a response from Taylor.

To me,if Steele REALLY cared about Taylor, he would have stopped it in the 11th when Taylor walked to the wrong corner
