Stevenson arguably the goat amateur at heavy and Roberto was the best in the late 2000s. Were they ever down?

Igor Vysotsky knocked Stevenson down in the first and second rounds and KOed him in the third round in the USSR-Cuba tournament in 1976.

Vysotsky had also beaten Stevenson in a tournament in Cuba via decision in 1973.

Even though Stevenson won the gold in the 1972 Olympics, Cuba considered not sending him to the 1976 Olympics because Vysotsky owned him every time they fought.

But Vysotsky was a bleeder and he was cut badly in an tournament before the 1976 Olympics and couldn't go. So Cuba sent Stevenson and an alternate to Montreal. When Cuba learned Vysotsky wasn't competing, Stevenson was given the go ahead and Teofilo won the gold medal again.

If Vysotsky had competed in the 76 Games, Stevenson wouldn't have.
