Was that a catchweight fight or something because I see Terry Norris and Meldrick Taylor both weighing in at 149 and it was for Norris' SWW title
I don't actually know the answer to this, but Norris often weighed in around 150-152 for his title defenses anyway. It was strange, you'd think he could've made 147 if he wanted to.
Umm....remember Jim Lampley saying that Norris and Chavez 'will happen soon' during the commentary for the Pea-Chavez fight. I could be wrong.
There was always talk of that fight happening, either at 147 or a catchweight. The fight was supposedly a done deal (or close to that) when Norris was clobbered by Simon Brown, and that ended that.
It was.......... Christ, I think 151 was the limit........... This was 1992.... I have the fight on tape, but I rarely review the mismatch....... I think Norris scaled 149 in 1992....... MR.BILL
There was definitely talk of Chavez and Norris fighting at 147 - I've got Chavez' career set and the commentators mention the possibility several times over the period of a couple of years. I think Norris was also willing to come down to Welter to fight de la Hoya. Tito stepped up to fight an eliminater for Norris' title (against Waters) but both guys were more interested in fighting Oscar and it unfortunately never happened.
