Was that an impressive performance by Golota - all things considered?

    I thought it was.

I mean look at the first round. Golota is slow as ****, not shot but damn.. Mollo was so much faster. He blocked naerly all of Mollo's stuff and didn't fold under the pressure. Then he goes on to outbox Mollo comfortably over the entire fight. Mollo had a few moments of landing right hands, but i think the way he closed Golota's eye was a bit of a fluke - maybe his glove landed exactly in the eye. Those things happen. Mercer hit Damiani right on the tip of his nose and ****ed him up badly, but that was pretty much luck: if it landed full on the chin, Damiani would have probably won.

Also i hated to see the ref doing nothing with Mollo's blatant holding. He should've taken a point away. Mollo would probably have been stopped had he not been able to hold on for the last 1,5 minute of every one of the last three rounds.

Golota doesn't have much of a future, but i thought it was nice to see a slow, aging fighter rather easily beat a young, upcoming fighter.

Considering he's 40, I'd say yeah, that was pretty good stuff from Golota.

He dealt with the expecting early attack. He showed a lot of composure and bravery with a badly swollen eye. And he showed good conditioning to outlast his younger opponent, and in fact was throwing a very credible 58 punches a round.

All said, and while it seems Mollo is confirmed to not be an elite fighter, Golota did well.

I agree that the ref's insipid handling of Mollo's clutching helped him to make the final bell, though Mollo deserves credit at least for his refusal to give up and go down.

I agree that Mollo was awful.

I was ringside in MSG on Saturday night...Mollo was sooooooooo tired, any Heavyweight worth anything would've knocked him out.

The referee was letting Mollo clutch on like the second coming of John Ruiz...I don't think you can really lay into Golota for not finishing him.

Worse thing is that the ref warned Mollo he was going to deduct points for holding fairly early in the fight, but then did absolutely bugger all about it in the second half.

AG is 40 years old ...and it was a great performance for a man his age. He showed heart and won over a lot of fans by fighting with his eye in the terrible shape it was in. After all the **** he has been through....it was a real good win for him.

problem is it was a good win over a poor fighter, a prime AG would have decked Mollo early.
A good win but times against Andrew now id kinda like to seem him get a belt after the Ruiz and Bryd fights i thought he was unlucky but i cant see it now

A physically prime Golota would have quit with his bad eye (although he probably would have never gotten to that point as he would have smashed Mollo in the first-third round). My point is.....Golota is in his Mental Prime NOW!!

Golota was never one to knock out an opponent with one punch, he just beats the hell out of them.

Its funny how everyone's claiming Mollo as a bum after the fight.....but prior majority though that Mollo will be too much...too strong, too hungry, AG is too old...etc.
Don't get me wrong Golotas skills are definitely not what they use to be, but he still had enough in the tank. I don't think that Mollo is that bad of a fighter. There's a lot of fighters out there that he can handle outside the top 10.

This was simply a case of a mentally challenged has-been against a club fighter. Golata won by memory. The result means absoloutly nothing.

Yeah, very good performance by Golota. Would have been better if he would have finished Mollo.

    NO it really wasnt:nono

Sure he held it together for 12 rounds with Mike Mollo, but he should have taken Mollo out. Mollo couldnt do ANYHTHING FOR THE LAST 6 ROUNDS REALLY BUT STUMBLE, GET HIT, AND SUCKER PUNCH. Yet, Golota was so slow and 2 CAUTIOUS:-(

I guess ya gotta celebrate the sad accomplishments while ya can. They are very few and FAR BETWEEN:good

It was an ok performance nothing more though. Will probably earn him another title shot somewhere down the line though which speaks volumes about todays heavies.

Vlad - Would destroy him within 5

Peter/Oleg- Peter would stop AG around the midway point but Oleg would be a pick em fight.

Chagaev- Would stop the foul pole late or win a UD

Ibragimov- Again a late stoppage or UD.

I like Golota i just feel its too late in the day for him to win a title now.
