I've seen more than a couple posts on several boxing sites claiming the bell for the latter ast round of Joshua-Usyk was 5 seconds early? Any confirmation of this idea? Would Usyk have had time to finish him off?
This is the first I have heard of it, yet it would not surprise me. It is possible Joshua might have folded (quit) if Usyk had beat on him for 5 more seconds.
It was roughly 7 seconds from what I remember. The clock disappeared from the DAZN feed at 12 seconds and then it rings about 5 seconds later.
I just went back and checked DAZN. The bell to end the last round was exactly three minutes after the bell to start the round. It was the time they showed on screen that was incorrect.
Can't specifically name a fight but might just be a inaccuracy thing with the on screen timer. I could recall a few times where some fights on the undercard of smaller events were the bells were rang a little "early". There might have been one on the undercard on Benn Vargas or Povetkin Whyte, but don't quote me on that.
It was 7 seconds early. I was ****ing furious, robbed me of an $800 stoppage from a $20 bet. **** you Hearn, slimey dog.
Originally I also thought the round had been stopped 6 seconds early. But I just did the same thing as you with DAZN. It was exactly 3 minutes bell to bell. The on screen clock came on exactly 10 seconds after the bell reading 2:56/55. So it was 5 seconds behind. As @JabbaTheGut said above, it seemed to line up with when the referee indicated start boxing, after trying to get Usyk out of his corner and to the center of the ring. Tried to listen for the 10 second warning. And could just about make it out. The trouble was the directional mic seemed to be pointed at Joshua's corner so there was clapping and McCracken shouting "Brilliant AJ" throughout. Anyway, from the 10 second warning it was maybe a second early. But as you said it was 3 minutes from bell to bell. No issues from me.
I had $100 on the stoppage at 6/1, but I don't think another seven seconds was enough time to seal it. If it'd been the 11th round ending that way, you've got to have serious doubts about Joshua even getting off the stool for the 12th. He looked in a world of hurt and bewilderment immediately after the bout ended. One might argue that adrenaline would've gotten him back out there if there'd been another round to box, but it doesn't drain that soon after a fight concludes.
