Was the 1980's the best decade for boxing?

I agree with this thread, I think the 80s was the apex of boxing. If you look at 1982 alone, how many amazing fights there were, how many amazing fighters there were, for me it was the best, yes.

    :happy

PS: And you haven't even touched on the insanely brilliant low-weight fighters of the 80s here!

As I've said, my knowledge on these is poor. But please fill me in.

It seems there are different definitions. So, I guess you can count is as an 80s fight.

You're German, that's the only explanation I can think of. I guess you were one of those mind-numbing bores who were busy shouting "the millennium is officially next year" at 11.59pm on 31st Dec 1999, then you were locked out of the pub and told to go home.

Well, it happened in 1980, so I think we will. Just like you wouldn't have counted Schmeling's win over Sharkey as not being from the 1930s. Can't have it both way.

Yeah, I guess I will count it as the 1980's. Wasn't really planning on doing otherwise, but thanks for the detour.

Of course I would have. I don´t see Schmeling as a 20s fighter but that win was a 20s win. But anyway, it´s done.

No it wasn't, come on chump, give it up. The 1930s encompassed the years 1930-1939. That isn't up for debate. But well done anyway. :good

I am a fan of rap music and was a teenager through the best years of rap, being the mid 90's, now rap is gone downhill, but that is ok cause I still have all the old cd's and have my memoirs of good times and can remeber all the good songs that were around at that time.

Being only new to boxing (about three years) I feel a bit cheated. I would have loved to of lived through the great boxing decades and been able to see good - great bouts on live tv. Now I have to watch all the old bouts on dvd, which is never the same. get a few PPV's throught the year and come to a forum to talk about boxing as I never met anyone that knows as much about boxing as me and yet I know nothing compared to the guys on here.
